Vivo launched the Vivo Z10 smartphone in India in July last year. It was then exclusively sold via offline stores across the country. Now, the company is set to reintroduce the Z-series in the India market. The new Z-series smartphones will be coming with an aggressive price tag and will be exclusively available through online stores. The smartphones under this new series are said to be priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 30,000.
The company is still in talks with Indian e-commerce websites for selling Z-series smartphones. Along with the 3rd-party online stores, the company will also sell these upcoming smartphones through its own Vivo online store. With the Z-series, Vivo joins Samsung and LG in targeting the millennials who are more interested in online shopping. Samsung has already tasted success with the Galaxy M series which recently crossed 2 million sales in India.
On the other hand, LG in partnership with Amazon India is introducing all-new W-series to sell budget smartphones with competitive specifications and aggressive price tag. Vivo also has to compete with Xiaomi and Realme which already strong in the online segment. Talking about the Vivo Z-series, the company has launched a couple of smartphones in China in the last few months. The Vivo Z5x launched last month in China is the most affordable smartphone to come with a punch-hole display.
It came with 5000mAh battery and is powered by Snapdragon 710 SoC. In terms of optics, the Vivo Z5x came with 16MP triple camera setup on the rear and a 16MP single selfie camera on the front. With all these specifications, the device is priced as low as CNY 1398 (approx USD 200 / INR 14,000). According to Nipun Marya, Director of Vivo India, the company might not offer the same Z-series smartphones which are already launched in China.
As per the report from CounterPoint, Vivo has doubled its market share in India from 6% in Q1 2018 to 12% in Q1 2019. Coming to the Canalys report, the company has managed to ship almost 4.5 million units in the Q1 2019 alone.
