UK Gets first Android One device – Karbonn Sparkle V at Double Price

Karbonn Sparkle V White

Android One series did not fare well at all in India, and that is not only because of the fierce competition from some brands that went aggressive with the pricing in budget range. Google defined its own terms in the design and included the good stock OS but chose to go with just the top online stores in India for selling these, and that didn’t go well. But, Google isn’t limiting this to India, as one of the Android One phones, the Karbonn Sparkle V enters UK market with a hefty pricing, double to what it was being sold in India.

Is anything changed? the specs or anything else? nothing. It is the same device with nothing changed, and UK is the first market outside India to get an Android One smartphone, which was projected as a budget range series. The smartphone is available for the price of £129.99 in Amazon UK.

To give a quick look at the specs, the Sparkle V has similar specs to that in the other Android One smartphones, i.e. Spice Dream Uno and Micromax Canvas A1, with a 4.5 inch display, a 1.3GHz quad-core Mediatek processor with 1GB RAM and it runs Android 4.4 KitKat, with a guaranteed update to Android Lollipop OS in the near future. Reports claim that the update would be available in January 2015.

For now, there is only the white variant available in UK, and for us, the Android One series was a good value-for-money products in India, alongside some other smartphones that were a pure challenge to these. But, the pricing set for the U.K. market is crazy, given that you get better smartphones for that price, and Android One series was introduced with the tag of $100 and around that.

Pay a little more than this and get the brilliantly good and better Moto G, or a little less and get the decent Moto E, both with near-stock Android experience as well. Choice is yours!

Android one based by karbon in uk i dont think will get lots of response as it has bad camera even in india its not a big deal just an average response from people but in uk i think they will as it is .named sparkle may be it sparkle in the eyes of uk people and as much response to rise up

  • WOW! I’m usually accepting of Google’s marketing campaigns but this is a horrendous move! After flopping in India they choose to take Android One to the UK for double the flop price? Thats absurd and spells absolute doom. The specs aren’t great but at the original price tag it was understandable and acceptable as an Android One device. Now that the price has been doubled it no longer feels like Android One. It feels like a cheap phone trying to be sold for crazy prices! It will never work as this phone has no special flashy tricks that can attract users. I agree with you 100%. I also always recommend Moto E and G its the best budget devices you can get for your money and Android One is really messing up here!

So after their fail in INdia with the Android one program they have taken the phone to UK. The reason that is was a flop because India has a very aggressive market and making budget there are really hard because companies are making really great phones at a low price. Taking this phone to the UK was a great choice and i think it made sense because INdia’s market is already filled and too competive. In UK this device will sell good but offering it at double the price seems to doubt me. I that case i would rather get a moto G 2014 or even a Moto E. This google phone has absolutely no use or special features other than getting the new Android updates. In my opinion for double the price i would rather buy a Motorola!!

    • Definitely! You get dome much more with the g or e they really worked hard to make cheap phones

      • Suraj Racharla

Yeah the Moto G and Moto E are excellent options are the phones are really going to pick up. Credits to motorola for creating amazing and great low end budjet phones!!

        • definitely and and all other companies INCLUDING companies partnered with android ne should get their notebooks and take notes!!

          • Suraj Racharla

Yeah i hope soon Samsung releases something like Note Nexus and its stock Android on a Samsung galaxy note Best of both worlds!!

          • oh yeah! I loved the galaxy nexus and the nte nexus would be even better!! Something awesome to wait for

          • Suraj Racharla

Maybe something to root for that will be along side the launch with the Note 5

          • If thats launched with the note 5 i think samsung might get a message about what some people think about touchwiz they would be giving people a choice of stock android or their touchwiz

          • Suraj Racharla

Yeah it would be perfect. The phone would be like the number 1 phone of the year and if this happens i cant wait to see how Stock Android integrates the s pen into their Ui!!

          • i felt that way too i feel like so many iphone users would make the jump to samsung if it had stock its cheaper and much more powerful!

          • Suraj Racharla

Yeah a note variant with Stock Android that is much cheaper!!! That would be amazing people would make the smart switch!!!

          • maybe a better launch partner would be with a tizen os phone so their wouldnt be too much competition with their main ui

          • Suraj Racharla

uummm yeah i was also wondering that but i think Tizen would be a flop because Android is ruling now. It will be a big risk to launch Tizen in this time of Android’s History.

          • Yeah one of Tizens main problems… is they just cant seem to get it right! it has still yet to take off!

          • Suraj Racharla

Launching it in the S gear globally gave a taste of what it will be like!!

  • Shashank Chourey

It’s a great concept but the price really holds it back. There really isn’t much incentive to purchase this over a moto g. Moto G is way better and cheaper.

    • Definitely not I’m guessing the initiation of android one in the UK will spark so much interest in the alluring benefits that people will be willing to pay a higher price for their budget phone

    • Suraj Racharla

Yeah but in UK the standard of pricing is higher than Indias. UK doesnt have a really aggresive market and launching devices there is easy because Chinese companys hasn’t really firmly made their way yet. Despite the price upgrade i think the people will still buy the phone because it is from Google and it is a very reputable company around the world!!

Very poor straregy by karbonn . Android one failed to make an impact . Great initiatve but plan not executed well .

    • Suraj Racharla

it could be iniated well its just that they need to market it more and start off in the rightr country. India is too competive and there are phones that are extremely worthy of their price. Android 1 has taken the right step to make their way into the Uk and stir up some action there
