Mi A1, Xiaomi’s First Android One Smartphone to Soon Launch in India – Rumor
A few years back, Google has partnered with the Indian smartphone manufacturers to launch affordable Android One smartphones. Later, Google also launched the Android One smartphones in selected European and Asian markets. With the Android One program, the company initiated to provide the affordable smartphones in the emerging markets. In its first year, Google provided hardware reference design to the Android One manufacturers and it looks after the software part by providing latest Android updates at least for the first two years.
But with the second-gen Android One smartphones, Google gave the freedom to the manufacturers to choose the specifications and the design. Looking at the low sales of the Android One smartphones, the project has failed to meet the expectations. Now, the new leak suggests Xiaomi to soon launch the next Android One smartphone. Earlier this year, we have also heard rumors about the possible launch of Android One smartphone in the U.S with Project Fi support. However, the Xiaomi’s Android One smartphone will be launched first in India.
Looking at the past, the upcoming Android One smartphone from Xiaomi will be coming with stock Android UI instead of the in-house MIUI. While the earlier Android One never impressed the users, the Xiaomi’s Android One device with stock UI will make the affordable segment even more interesting. The device comes with the model number MDG2 and might be launched Xiaomi Mi A1 Android One smartphone. It sports the same design as the Mi 5X launched in China and we also expect it to feature the same specifications except for the OS.
Xiaomi is already teasing the launch a new dual-camera smartphone in India. Interestingly, the Mi 5X comes with 12MP dual cameras on the rear. If the rumors are to be believed, the Mi A1 will be the first Android One smartphone to offer the dual-lens camera. The Mi 5X sports a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at up to 2GHz. It comes coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 3GB/4GB of RAM. The device will be available in 32GB and 64GB storage options and there is also MicroSD card slot for storage expansion.
On the front is a 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear of the device. It is backed by a 3,080mAh non-removable battery and supports fast charging with 5V/2A (10W) power adapter. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port.
