The Smartwatch market is very active with new devices being released from every company, and LG has come out with a Smartwatch worth the competition named LG G Watch. LG is working with Google and is using the Android Wear software in its device and as LG has already partnered with Google to produce the Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 we can see that the G watch will have the OS features of Google and the hardware of LG.
Update: Just announced at Google I/O, the LG G Watch would be available from today, i.e. June 25th, on Google Play Store.
LG is going to release this Smartwatch in the second quarter of 2014; there have been two other Smartwatch attempts by LG namely the 3G Touch watch in 2009. And the Prada in 2008 which could not make a big impact in the market but this device surely looks impressive and let us get into the detailed review of the device.
The design of LG G watch is going to be a Rectangular device coming in 2 colors Stealth Black and Champagne Gold, which is based on the color of the border of the screen. The Screen is surrounded by space more on top and bottom and a little thinner on the sides that i personally make it feel a bit cheaper.
There are no physical buttons anywhere on the design, and the side view of the device is not too bulky and gave a premium feel to it. The Strap of the LG G watch is black, and LG has said that it will, allow users to change the Strap so users can get a customs look on their Smartwatch and not get stuck with the company given strap. Should wait and see if Metal straps and Bands can be replaced as in Moto 360.
On the design aspect, the device has stuck to the basic Rectangular design with a changeable strap. And a neat premium feeling body but it is not able to get the attention that Moto 360 design is making in the market.
LG G Smart watch comes with a good 512 MB of RAM for this small device, and 4 GB of Internal Storage, which is not expandable (should wait for the official release). The Device sports a 1.85 inch panel and a 1.65 inch screen which has Resolution of 280 x 280 pixels.
Software and OS
The LG G Watch is going to come with the Android Wear Software specifically made for Smart watches. Android wear gives importance more to Health and Fitness by giving real-time details of your workout or your cycling or Walk like Speed, Distance, Steps, etc. with the many apps which will be made compatible with it. LG and Google have also incorporated “OK Google” that will help perform Voice Searches through your Smartwatch by just saying OK Google and speaking out what you want to search.
You will get regular updates from your calendar, and Google Now features will be incorporated like the nearby places, distance to work and home, birthday reminders and many more. You can respond to Text messages with voice commands, Scanning of QR codes, compatible with non-Smart devices, you can control music.
Release Date and Pricing
The G Watch comes with a two color options, but there is an option to change the straps of the LG G Watch.
The LG G Watch is going to be released in June, and the smartwatch would be priced €199 in Europe, according to LG France. Although the pricing set by the companies is almost the same when it comes to the US and UK market, but it won’t be a surprise if the pricing goes to around $250-$300 in the US market.
