While one of the points that might have grabbed most people’s attention was the groundbreaking 4G tariffs with free HD voice calls among various things. We felt that e-KYC announcement is something more groundbreaking.
Most of the current top players haven’t achieved this feat, but Reliance Jio being a young player in the industry has set a standard of making SIM activation procedure easier than it ever was. Though, Reliance Jio isn’t the first operator to announce e-KYC as Airtel and Vodafone recently announced their services.
If you are wondering what is it about and how can it affect you, as well as how it will work with Reliance Jio SIM, then you are at right place. Before we start the procedure on how to get Jio SIM in 15 minutes, let’s talk briefly about e-KYC.
What is e-KYC?
First of all you should know what KYC stands for, it stands for Know Your Customer. It is a process of verifying the identity of users who have signed up for certain services such as a SIM card. It is used by most businesses at large scale for verifying the identity of clients. With e-KYC, the Aadhaar based verifying solution system part away with manual paper checks and brings the whole process online. Thus, speeding up the process and offering greater convenience to the users. It makes business more efficient in doing the verification.
Usually, the users have to carry a number of documents to show the proof of address, proof of identity and passport size photographs. Then, they would have to fill the customer application form (CAF) carefully without any mistakes in the details. Further, they have to attach the signed photocopy and photograph on CAF. The form then needs to be picked up and sent to company if you’ve submitted application at the third-party authorised distributor. While it takes lesser time at official stores as they feed the details in their systems right away.
They will promise you that your number would be activated in a couple of hours, but that is sadly not the case with all mobile operators in the country. It’s rarely fast. So, naturally with Reliance Jio announcing that people can walk out of Reliance Digital stores with an activated JIO SIM card within 15 minutes, as claimed by Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman & Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited.
Get Activated Jio SIM in 15 minutes
Well, according to the statement released by the company, they will be setting up e-KYC centres at their Reliance Digital stores across India, starting with Mumbai and Delhi. At those centers, you would have to showcase the Aadhaar Card and submit your biometrics such as fingerprint and maybe retina scan. It would be matched with the database submitted at UIDIA, which handles everything regarding Aadhaar Card.
Ideally, this whole procedure shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. Though, do not take our word for it. We would know once we try out. If you’re in Mumbai or Delhi on September 5th, then you can walk to the nearest Reliance Digital store and find out whether it is a fast procedure as it is claimed. We would like to receive your feedback in the comments section below once you do that.
