Yotaphone

A new 2014 version of the dual-screen YotaPhone is going to be launched in India on October 17th, and it is yet another product to be sold exclusively through the giant online retailer Flipkart. After being leaked earlier on Flipkart, the launch was imminent, and finally this smartphone with a secondary display got announced.

What’s special about this phone? Apart from the standard LCD display, there is a secondary E-Ink display, on the rear side of the device. The advantage here is that the secondary display is always turned ON, and it shows all the notifications, weather updates, social media updates and reminders. Users can also read e-books using the secondary E-Ink display.

The front display on the YotaPhone is 4.3-inch in size and has a 720p resolution, while the rear E-Ink display has the same size, but the resolution is 640 x 360 pixels. For the internal specs, the YotaPhone is powered with the 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB RAM, and there is 32GB internal storage included.

In the camera department, it is a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and on the front there is a 1-megapixel camera. An 1800 mAh battery is what keeps the phone running, and the company claims that it is a lot better than the battery on the other smartphones. The YotaPhone runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, and there is no info about the future updates to the OS.

The YotaPhone is priced at Rs. 23499 and it is being exclusively sold on Flipkart. It will be interesting to see how the after-sales service is handled in the Indian market, although the smartphone has always been in a different category due to the dual screen that solves some extra purpose, while saving a lot of battery as the E-Ink display doesn’t consume a lot of battery and users activate the screen many a times each day only to check the notifications.

Yes the dual displayreally does look good. It may not the average screen we expect to see night if amazing to see a.company try something innovative

  • Jugal Mudoi

I don’t feel much necessity of this dual screen while there are few phones with quick window flip covers to reach to notifications though it can be considered as a innovative work…

    • yeah give them credit for trying to think outside the box, but maybe smetimes we have to stay in!! And focus on producing with whats great!

    • Suraj Racharla

But YotA did Still try something that was out of the blue. All the great things start with innovations like this and any companies we know today started off like this. YotA might be the next apple. You never know

  • Shanky Yadav Jungly

Ok we just don’t need a dual displays when there is lots of finest brand with finest quality of smartphones are available at this price .

    • yeah a dual display doesnt give much when a not 4 is packed with a huge quad hd amoled screen!

      • Shanky Yadav

yup that’s why I was saying that we just don’t need a dual display smartphone which is just up to mark

    • Suraj Racharla

YotA tried doing something out of the ordinary but they knew they could’t make high quality diaplays.

      • Shanky Yadav Jungly

lets hope that you a must release a smartphone whiten dual screen but this time with more features and more specs and more specs

      • Shashank Chourey

E-ink display.. like we have on Kindle devices..

        • Suraj Racharla

yes i find E ink very immpresssive but not something that would change my desicion in buying a phone or tablet!!

      • Shashank Chourey

        True that..

    • Suraj Racharla

Well it depends on the type of person you are. If you like technology then this would be very interesting to you and you would buy it. But you like technology but would.like to heat about first hand from someone else then you probably woudnt but it !!

meh phones display is sorta small and is surrounded by large bezels. New way af browsing is weird as there are no home buttons and you must hold to get to the recents page. The backs e ink display makes it look like an amazon reader. And very minimal data is sent to the back. Im really not sure about THESE innovations

  • Android

The phone screen is small but the bezels are big. This doesnt look visually attracting but when you on the screen it looks like a black and white phot frame. IT looks good withthe ink diplay and actualluy thinlk it s very innovating. It also mkaes the lock screen look very good and i have to say with the screen turned on the device looks like bliss. The ink display also saves battery and therefore needs less energy and smaller battery. The next step for the second generation phne is it make it slimmer and actually market it better so than more people know about it. Marketing is the key to high sales!!!

  • Yota should consider ditching a dual display and make a phone directly competitive to other flagships out there! Its good for all of us!
