Using smartphone camera instead of a DSLR on your next vacation – Is it possible?
Remember the first cell phone you owned with a camera on it? Well, you probably don’t remember right? We don’t blame you for that since it might not have been the best experience. But we bet you do remember that the quality of that particular camera was not even close to the one which you have right now. That is the kind of technological advancement we are looking at when it comes to smartphones. While most people run behind specs sheets, often going after the processor, the amount of RAM inside the phone, etc; they often fail to appreciate the potential of smartphones in little things like its ability to capture stunning images or ‘Selfies.’ The digital photography revolution has now made it possible to fit in small camera sensors inside the body of a smartphone which is, in fact, capable of competing with some of the professional rigs out there.
Having said that, we decided to explore an uncharted territory to prove something that otherwise might sound like an extremely silly thing to do. What if we say that smartphone cameras can actually replace your DSLRs? Yes, if you are pro photographer then you are probably laughing at this point, but hold onto that thought and let us state some simple facts here. But before getting into that, one thing which you people should understand is that the smartphone cameras can never replicate the images or videos taken from a professional camera. And when we said, ‘replace’ we wanted to prove that you don’t really need a pro camera with you on every occasion. For instance, let’s say you are going on a picnic with your loved ones or maybe just on holiday to visit someone. You don’t need to carry around your DSLRs every single time, and yes, it is very much possible, and it is indeed functional as well.
Now, in order to prove that it is possible, we decided to head out for a trip with no other professional camera but a smartphone. And to our favor, surprisingly the images which we managed to get out of the Vivo V5 Plus are definitely comparable to that of a professional camera, if not better. The Vivo V5 Plus as you know comes with a 16MP rear facing camera which is good for most shooting conditions. Yes, definitely the photos are not going to look nearly as good as something out of a professional DSLR, but no other smartphone in the market is capable of doing that anyway. Instead of talking and explaining things, why don’t you check out the sample photos from the Vivo V5 Plus given below?
As you can see from the images attached above, the Vivo V5 Plus did a fantastic job indeed. Also, an advantage of using a smartphone like Vivo V5 Plus instead of a DSLR is having the ability to take selfies. And we all know how painful it is to even think about taking selfies with a DSLR camera. And it is not just about the image quality always. Considering the fact that we are talking about a smartphone camera, there is no need for a separate device altogether and not to forget about all the accessories as well.
In order to make it very clear, let’s quickly run through some facts on what does it takes to use a professional camera and compare it with a smartphone camera!
Few points to consider while using a DSLR camera
- Handling a professional camera is not always the easiest thing to do. There are a lot of things to consider like the main camera rig, additional accessories, etc.
- Also buying the right camera for the kind of job which you are trying to accomplish is very important.
- And lastly the ease of use also plays a vital role since the DSLRs are not the most easiest thing to use and it takes a lot of knowledge and experience to crank out some good looking photos from them.
Using a smartphone as a replacement
As mentioned above, working with a professional camera is not always the easiest thing to do, however, once we replaced the professional camera with Vivo V5 Plus, things were easier than what was expected. Using the Vivo V5 Plus a replacement to take photos was like sipping the morning coffee. Since it is just like using your smartphone for a day-to-day task, using the Vivo V5 Plus was an absolute breeze. And not to forget about the fact that you won’t be needing any additional accessories like extra battery, lens, etc. And above all, taking pictures was not nearly as complicated as you would expect like using a DSLR. The camera on the Vivo V5 Plus managed to take some great looking photos in the auto mode itself, however, if you want to show your photography skills, then there is also a ‘pro-mode‘ which you can use.
Fun fact: You will also be able to take some great selfies with the Vivo V5 Plus, which is something that is not really easy to do with a DSLR.
And talking about selfies, the front facing dual cameras on the Vivo V5 Plus offers a variety of different features that should help you post stunning Instagram selfies. The Vivo V5 Plus comes with a 20MP + 8MP setup on the front which is the first of its kind from the company and is promised to make your photos and videos look better. The 8MP camera is entirely dedicated to capturing the depth information to give a nice depth-of-field effect and make the subject pop out. While this feature is hard to even find with the primary camera of most of the flagship smartphones, Vivo managing to bring this to the front to help you click great better selfies is worth appreciating.
The Vivo V5 Plus also offers a great value for money in terms of internal hardware as well. Check out few of key specs listed below –
- Display – 5.5 inches IPS LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
- Chipset – Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 Octa-core 2.0 GHz processor.
