Xiaomi’s Black Shark Gaming Smartphone Officially Launched

Back in February, we reported about the possible launch of a gaming smartphone from Black Shark, one of the subsidiaries of Xiaomi. While there is no official confirmation, a new BlackShark smartphone with flagship specifications is now revealed by Antutu. As of now, there are no details about the device name or its model number. The teaser image from its official website reveals the device to feature USB Type-C port and stereo speakers on the bottom edge.

Xiaomi’s BlackShark Gaming Smartphone Listed Online

It comes with a metal unibody design with chamfered edges and is covered by a 2.5D curved glass on the top. Talking about the specifications, the first smartphone from BlackShark will be coming with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. It also includes 8GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. We expect the device to be made available in different storage options.

As we reported earlier, the device might come with the aviation-class cooling system. Since its a gaming-centric device, we expect the company to make even more tweaks. However, we don’t expect the device to be slim or sleek like other flagship devices. While Xiaomi recently launched the MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the upcoming BlackShark smartphone is listed to come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Let’s wait and see whether it comes with MIUI skin or not. Talking about the display, it offers 18:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Te BlackShark with 270680 Antutu score has crossed other Snapdragon 845 powered devices including Samsung Galaxy S9 and Asus Zenfone 5z. The BlackShark will be competing with the Snapdragon 835 powered RazerPhone. The RazerPhone came with a 120Hz display and 4000mAh battery.

BlackShark SKR-A0 Spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 845 & 8GB RAM

Last month, we exclusively reported about the possible launch of a gaming smartphone from Xiaomi in China. Laster, we also found the Antutu listing of the BlackShark smartphone revealing all the key specifications. Even the company also teased the design of the device by listing it on their official website. Now, the same BlackShark smartphone is spotted on Geekbench with the model number SKR-A0. The device specifications from the Geekbench are similar to the details we found on Antutu.

Based on the listing, the Xiaomi’s first gaming-centric smartphone has scored 2481 on the single core test and 8595 on the multi-core test. Earlier this week, another Xiaomi smartphone with the codename Dipper is found on Geekbench. It is mentioned to come with Snapdragon 845 SoC and 6GB of RAM. The Xiaomi Dipper has scored 2449 on the single core test and 8309 on the multi-core test.

While there is no official confirmation, the Xiaomi Dipper is expected to be launched as Mi 7 in the coming months. We might be hearing some sort of confirmation about the BlackShark and Mi 7 smartphone at the upcoming Mi MIX 2S launch event.

Xiaomi’s First Gaming Smartphone to Launch on April 13th in China

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi MIX 2S smartphone with flagship specifications. It is the first Snapdragon 845 powered smartphone to launch by a Chinese manufacturer. Earlier today, OnePlus officially teased the launch of OnePlus 6. It is mentioned to pack Snapdragon 845 SoC, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. Now, Xiaomi has officially confirmed to launch its gaming specific smartphone on April 13th in China. This new device will be launched under the brand name Black Shark.

The Black Shark smartphone packs flagship hardware along with gaming-focused features. Based on the earlier leaks, it comes with Snapdragon 845 SoC along with 6GB/8GB of RAM. Apart from the regular users, the company is also targetting the e-sports for using their device. Even Nubia is also coming up with a new gaming-specific smartphone. Both the Xiaomi and Nubia gaming smartphones will be competing with Razer Phone.

Black Shark GamePad Firstlook Leaked

As rumors suggested, Black Shark is not launching a gaming smartphone that looks like Sony’s PSP. The company will be unveiling a compatible gamepad alongside its debut smartphone. Thanks to the leaked image of the device, now we got the first look of the Black Shark gamepad. From the rear, we can see the rugged nature of the gamepad that should give nice grip while playing games for longer durations. Since it is designed for playing games, we expect the gamepad to come with an additional battery for extending the battery life of the device.

Talking about the device, it comes with a metal unibody design with rounded corners. On the right edge, we can spot the power button and volume rocker. There is an alert slider-like switch with the textured surface on the left edge. It could be for enabling the gaming mode called “Shark Space” to boost the device performance and limiting the notifications. The Black Shark Gaming Smartphone is currently listed on JD.com. However, there are no details about the specifications and pricing of the device.

TheBlack Shark Gaming Smartphone launch event is scheduled for April 13th and the device will be sold via JD, Xiaomi, and Black Shark exclusively in China.

Latest: Xiaomi Black Shark Gaming Smartphone is Now Official

As announced earlier, Xiaomi’s Black Shark has officially launched its first ever smartphone today in China. The Black Shark gaming smartphone will be coming unusual design for giving perfect grip of the users. It also sports a logo on the with breathable LED light. We missed this feature on the last year’s Razer Phone. On the front is a 5.99-inch In-cell display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint sensor on this device is placed below the large display.

Under the hood is the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Kryo 385 CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. With the flagship specifications, theBlack Shark gaming smartphone gaming smartphone has scored 279,464 on Antutu benchmark test. The device will be available in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage respectively. The multilayer layer cooling kit on this device also includes water cooling system.

It is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery that can last 5 hours while playing graphics intensive games. The smartphone also supports Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. Apart from gaming, the company is also showcasing the camera capabilities of this device. It comes with a standalone image processing chip. Talking about the cameras, there is a 20MP + 12MP dual camera setup on the rear and a single 20MP selfie camera on the front.

The device comes with a new customized UI called JOY UI and includes a few MIUI apps. It also includes a dedicated option called Shark Space for uninterrupted gaming and there is a dedicated button to turn ON this option. Just like Nintendo Switch, the Black Shark gaming smartphone also comes with a swap-on gaming controller. Unlike third-party controllers, the Black Shark gaming controller easily pairs with the smartphone and there won’t be any delays while playing gaming games.

Talking about the pricing, the Black Shark Gaming Smartphone with 6GB & 8GB of RAM is priced at 2999 Yuan (approx $479 / Rs. 31,150) and 3499 Yuan (approx $559 / Rs. 36,350) respectively. The Black Shark Gaming Controller is priced at 179 Yuan, but the company will be shipping it for free for the first 50,000 orders of its gaming smartphone.
