Earlier: March 12th: Launch news of Xiaomi Redmi 2
Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi 2 smartphone in India, for a price of Rs. 6999. This budget phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 1.2 GHz processor, and a 4.7 inch HD display enters the market to compete against the likes of Lenovo A6000 and the Moto E 2015 4G (this isn’t launched in India yet).
The registration for the first sale starts today, and the phone will be available from March 24th. The color options available are White and Grey.
* The limited edition of Redmi 2, i.e. with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage is coming soon, according to the company.
The device weighs 133gm, and it comes in multiple color options. The back cover is said to be finely textured, with a matte finish, and it is Fingerprint and grease-resistant. Internally, there is the 64-bit processor with Adreno 306 GPU. The Dual SIM smartphone supports 4G connectivity on both the SIM cards. It will be a support for both FDD (Band 3, 1800 MHz) and TDD (Band 40, 2300 MHz) LTE bands.

The screen is provided by Sharp, and it has a AGC Dragontrail glass, which is capable of resisting scratches. The Redmi 2 has some nifty features for SIM card management, where there isn’t SIM 1 and SIM 2 anymore, and the user will be seeing carrier name, and will be able to name the SIM cards as well.
On the camera side, there is an 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture and a 28mm wide-angle 5-element lens. On the front, is a 2-megapixel selfie camera. The phone has a 2200 mAh battery with QuickCharge 1.0 technology, to charge the device 20% faster than the Redmi 1s.
Earlier: on Jan 4, 2015: Xiaomi Redmi 2 with 4.7-inch 720p Display, Snapdragon 410 Processor Official
Xiaomi has officially announced the next Redmi device, the Redmi 2, with no big changes in the physical aspect and what was shown in the TEENA listing was almost true, as the device packs in, a 4.7-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 410 processor and 1GB RAM, and it supports 4G LTE connectivity.
The smartphone is coming in different color options, i.e. White, Dark gray, Bright Yellow, Light Green and Pink and the pricing is set at 699 yuan, which is about $115. Registrations for the sale of this device start today itself, at QQ Space and right now, this is limited to Chinese market. The launch date is set for January 9th 2015.
The device also named as Hongmi 2 for Chinese market, has a 2200 mAh battery and the camera combination is the same in the first Xiaomi Redmi 1s smartphone.
Xiaomi is set to launch a Redmi series smartphone on 4th January 2015, and although CES 2015 is around the corner, the company has confirmed that the device will be officially launched in China on 4th January. The main focus here is on the connectivity, as the Dual SIM smartphone will support 4G LTE network.
Although Xiaomi hasn’t put out any details and specs about the upcoming smartphone, a listing on TEENA already puts out a lot of details. With the given specifications, there is some similarity to the budget range phone Redmi 1s.
The specs listed on TEENA listing include the 4.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with HD resolution (1280×720 pixels), Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB RAM and a camera combination of 8-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras, and the OS will be Android 4.4 KitKat based MIUI v6. The storage options include 8GB internal storage, with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. It is very unclear whether this is the same device which Xiaomi will be launching.
The beginning of the year itself seems to be an active one for the top Chinese smartphone manufacturer, as the president of the company recently announced that the next flagship device will be launched in January, and that is not linked to this budget Redmi smartphone with the 4G LTE connectivity.
The device already being sold in big numbers, i.e. the Redmi 1s has the 3G connectivity, and the upcoming device with almost the same specs except for an upgraded processor, looks like the 4G variant of the Redmi 1s. Let’s wait to check what Xiaomi has to excite the fans this month.
