Xiaomi Mi 5S with Snapdragon 821 SoC & 6GB RAM to Launch on Sep 27th
Xiaomi announced the flagship Mi 5 smartphone at MWC 2016 in Barcelona. The device was later launched in India at a price of Rs. 24,999 for the 3GB RAM variant and is now retailing at Rs. 22,999 after the recent price cut. Though the device came with decent specifications, now it stays behind flagship smartphones from other Chinese brands which sport killer specs like 6GB RAM, 3D Touch Display, Dual Cameras and many more. LeEco is also rumored to launch Le Pro 3 smartphone with 8GB RAM on September 21st in China.
Talking about Xiaomi Mi 5S, the latest teaser image for the September 27th event confirms the Mi 5S launch. There are many leaks about the upcoming Mi 5S smartphone; it might come with the similar glossy finish design as on Mi 5. The Antutu listing revealed the device to feature a 5.15-inch Full HD display. Under the hood, the device will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor which is just an overclocked version of Snapdragon 820 processor. Though there won’t be any major changes, the new processor is mentioned to offer 10% better performance than its predecessor.
The device comes with 6GB of RAM and will be available in different storage variants. We hope there will also be a 4GB RAM variant of Mi 5S. The recent leaks also hinted the device to come with under glass fingerprint sensor that uses Qualcomm Snapdragon Sense ID biometrics technology. Instead of direct contact with the finger, with this new technology, the sensor uses the ultrasonic waves to scan the 3D images of the finger. It can be placed under the glass or metal, and Qualcomm mentioned that this new technology will bring greater accuracy, privacy and stronger authentication.

It will be running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based latest MIUI 8. Since the device comes with fingerprint sensor and NFC, it can be used for Xiaomi’s mobile payment service, Mi Pay. Till now, only the Xiaomi Mi 5 is compatible with the Mi Pay and the services are only limited to China as of now. While in India, Xiaomi is launching the Mi Air Purifier on September 21st event in New Delhi. We are expecting the company to launch the Mi Band 2 on that same stage.
