From the first weekend of this new year, we have started the weekly wrap-up of all the latest developments happened in the week along with other noteworthy launches.
This week we have seen the launch of OnePlus X Champagne Edition in Gold and White color in India. It is first launched in Hong Kong and selected European countries before coming to India. Apart from the all new color, the specifications and the design of the device remains same as the earlier launched OnePlus X.
LeTV will officially debut the India market on January 5th where it has scheduled the event in New Delhi. The company had announced the two superphones Le 1s and Le Max to be the first device to be made available in India. On the same date, the company is also expected to unveil the Le Max Pro at the CES 2016.
Samsung had updated the Galaxy A series devices by announcing Galaxy A3 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016), and Galaxy A9 (2016). This week a new entry-level smartphone Galaxy J1 (2016) with the model number SM-J120F leaked online. It is rumored to sport unannounced Exynos 3457 quad-core processor.
Apart from the entry-level smartphones from Samsung, the rumors around Galaxy S7 suggests the device to launch in two different form factors. The 5.2-inch variant of Galaxy S7 will have a flat screen while the 5.7-inch variant (mentioned as Galaxy S7 Edge) comes with dual edge display.
The first look of Xiaomi Mi 5, the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi is leaked in the press renders. As per the images, the device sports a physical home button that comes integrated with the fingerprint sensor. On the front, it features a 2.5D glass on top of the display and on the black, it comes with curved glass.
Next to the Xiaomi and Samsung, now lets talk about the LG G5, the device is expected to launch in February this year. It is rumored to have a Secondary Ticker Display that was recently seen on LG V10 and also dual rear cameras. The device might build out of metal and will include a fingerprint sensor placed on the rear of the device.
Coming to the Windows device, the Lumia 550 recently went on sale in India at a price of Rs. 9,390. After launching the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL, now the company is expected to launch the mid-range Lumia 850 which is also dubbed as the slimmest ever Lumia device measuring just 6.92mm. The leaked cases of the device confirm the design of the device that was leaked at the beginning of this month.
The new Chinese smartphone brand Smartisan had officially launched the successor for its debutant smartphone Smartisan T1 called as Smartisan T2. It runs on the customized Smartisan OS 2.5 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Apart from the specifications, the device comes with a simple design where there is no power button and visible network antenna strips.
Nokia 230, the first ever feature phone to have a selfie camera is now available to purchase through company’s online store at a price of Rs, 3,869. XOLO had launched the 8X-1000i smartphone with Hive UI based on outdated Android 4.4 Kitkat. It is priced at Rs. 6,999 and comes with glossy finish body and competitive specs.
Asus Zenfone Go 4.5 is the company’s most affordable smartphone priced at Rs. 5,299. It has a 4.5-inch display and comes with basic specifications when compared to other devices at this price range. XOLO One HD is the another affordable device that comes with a price tag of Rs. 4,777 and better cameras than the Zenfone Go 4.5.

Ulefone, a small Chinese smartphone manufacturer, had launched one of the best mid-range smartphones ‘Ulefone Power‘ priced at just $210. The USP of the device is its 6,050mAh massive battery that can give four days of mixed usage and come with Pump Express Plus technology that gives 2 hours of battery life with just 2 minutes of charging. It weighs 190 grams making it slightly lighter than the Gionee Marathon M5 that also comes with a huge 6,020mAh battery. The Ulefone Power runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box and will be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in February.
Firefly Mobiles had updated Firefly Mobile GT100 S with all new GT100 SL that comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop and is purchased cheaper than its successor. It has a 5-inch qHD display with Dragon Trail Glass protection. Under the hood is the MT6582 processor along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The dual SIM device is now available at just 3,299 Pesos in the Philippines.
The latest rumors from China suggests the upcoming Meizu Pro 6 to be powered by the unannounced Exynos 8870 processor. It is not the first for Meizu to use an Exynos chipset, the recently launched Meizu Pro 5 came with Exynos 7420, and many of the earlier launched Meizu smartphones used the Exynos processors. As per few leaks, the Exynos 8870 will be a less powerful variant of Exynos 8 Octa 8990 processor.
Intex launched the affordable Intex Aqua Q7 Pro smartphone priced at Rs. 4,190. It features 4.5-inch IPS display with a resolution 854 x 480 pixels. The device is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. On the camera part, it has a 2MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera. Since the specifications of Aqua Q7 Pro doesn’t look impressive, check out the other budget smartphones launched in December 2015.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer BVC Coship that had recently produced the Every Phone by Yamada Denki had officially entered the U.S market. The same Every Phone is now launched in the U.S as Moly X1 that runs on Windows 10 OS. As of now it is available in Black color and can be purchased from Amazon for $299. It measures just 6.9mm thick and sports decent mid-range specs like Snapdragon 410 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera. The company will also launch the Coship L08, L09, and X5 smartphones.
Karbonn Quattro L50 HD with 4G LTE is the latest smartphone from the company to launch in India. The device is priced at Rs. 7,777 and sports impressive specifications like 5-inch HD display and 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It has 2GB RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, and a battery of 2,650mAh capacity. On the camera front, it includes a 13MP rear camera with autofocus and a 5MP selfie camera. It comes in Deep Blue, Grey, and Coffee colors and can purchase at selected online stores.
The Philippines-based Cherry Mobiles had officially announced the list of smartphones to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The Cherry Mobile Touch XL, Flare S3, and S3 Lite already received the Lollipop OTA update, while the Cherry Mobile S3 Mini, S3 Octa, S3 Power, and Flare X are expected to receive in the next few weeks. There is no word mentioned about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Lollipop running devices.
It had also launched the high-end Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie with 16MP cameras on front and back of the device. The Flare Selfie is priced at just 7,999 Pesos and includes some competitive specs. It has a 5-inch HD display and is powered by MT6753 octa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Both the 16MP cameras are accompanied by an LED flash for capturing better images even in the dark.
This week Bluboo had launched the Bluboo Xfire 2 with triple SIM support. The device features a 2.5D 5-inch 720p display and is powered by MT6580 quad-core processor. It is priced at just $70 and is said to available in the next few days. Out of the three SIM’s, one SIM card also supports the MicroSD card in case if you are looking to the expands the storage of the device.
Qnet Mobiles had announced the one of the affordable 5.5-inch smartphone called ‘Qnet Mobile Hynex.’ It is priced at just 2,799 Peso and comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box. It features a 5.5-inch IPS display with qHD resolution and comes with dual SIM support. The 1.3GHz quad-core processor is coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. Qnet Mobile Cosmos and Cyclops are the other device that are priced lower than this and also includes just 512MB of RAM.
In December, Lava had launched some decent mid-range smartphone and this week it has unveiled two entry-level smartphones Lava Iris Atom and Iris Atom 3 priced at Rs. 4,249 and Rs. 4,899 respectively. Both the devices come with 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with 512MB RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. They run on Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box and supports 3G HSPA connectivity.
The U.K based HiSense had officially unveiled two new tablets Hisense Sero 8 Pro and Sero 8. The low-cost Sero 8 costs £84.98 while the Sero 8 Pro with better specifications is priced at £131.10. Both the tablets come with an 8-inch display but with different resolutions. They also run on the outdated Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box.
UMi Rome X that was announced few weeks is now officially launched this week in China. It is priced at just $50 and comes with a metal frame around the device. The 7.9mm thick device comes with a 5.5-inch HD display with 2.5D glass on top of it. There is also a Sony-made 13MP rear camera with dual tone LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies.
There are few smartphones launched by Philips in the last two months and this week a new tablet called Philips V710 has received the FCC certification. The 7-inch tablet is expected to unveil at the upcoming CES 2016 that will officially start in the nex few days. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and has a 3,000mAh poly-lithium battery.The tablet measures 190 x 108 x 10.5 mm and comes with a matte finish on the back.
