Earlier this year, Huawei launched the Huawei P20 Pro smartphone with the Leica triple camera setup that offered 5x hybrid zoom. Recently, the company also launched the Mate 20 series with a new Leica triple camera setup which can capture ultra wide-angle photos. The company will continue its partnership with Leica for the development of the cameras on its flagship smartphones.
In conversation with Android Pit, Walter Ji, president of Huawei Consumer Business Group in Western Europe, talked about the company’s ongoing innovations in the smartphone camera segment and others. While Huawei is currently offering triple rear cameras with its flagship smartphones, the next-gen Huawei flagship might carry a total of four rear cameras. However, Samsung already launched the world’s first smartphone with quad rear cameras.
While Huawei is currently offering ultra wide-angle view with the current triple camera setup, the next-gen Leica quad camera setup might also offer 10x optical zoom with lossless quality. Currently, the flagship Huawei smartphones are offering 5x hybrid zoom and others are offering 2x optical zoom. Talking about the UI, the company is not going to launch any Android One smartphones.
It will be sticking to its in-house EMUI with heavy customizations. According to Walter Ji, Huawei is betting big on 5G and it will launch its 5G smartphone in the first half of 2019. While 5G rollout will happen in 2019, it might not be made available across the nations for the foreseeable future. Let’s see, if the company can beat Samsung in launching the foldable smartphone first in the market. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
