Gionee S8 Confirmed to Launch on March 29 in China, Listed for more than INR One Lakh

Yesterday we had exclusively mentioned about the launch of Gionee W909, the high-end clamshell phone from Gionee. The event is scheduled on March 29th in China, and now the company also confirmed the launch of its latest flagship Gionee S8 at that same event. The Gionee S8 was first unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2016 held in Barcelona. As of we don’t have the information about the pricing & launch date for the Indian market.
It is the first smartphone from the company to launch with a 3D Touch display. Earlier to this, Huawei and ZTE launched the Mate S and Axon Mini smartphones with the same technology. However, these pressure sensitive displays didn’t help the user in brings more productivity. But the Gionee S8 comes with iPhone 6S like quick settings but are limited to few of the system apps. According to Gionee, the S8 can differentiate between Touch, Tap, & Press.
The upcoming Meizu Pro 6 is also said to come with the same 3D Touch display with quick settings. With the upcoming version of Android, Google is rumored to add support for 3D Touch, which in return brings more 3D Touch related features. Until there are apps with 3D Touch support, the functionality of the 3D Touch on Android devices will be limited to system apps.
Apart from the 3D Touch, the packs some high-end specifications packed into a sturdy Aluminium body. The S8 features a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) AMOLED display and is powered by the Helio P10 octa-core processor. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest Amigo 3.2 UI overlaid.
On the camera front, it sports a 16MP rear camera with PDAF & laser autofocus and an 8MP Selfie camera on the front. The device is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that can easily give at least a single day of mixed usage. It is equipped with a fingerprint sensor that was integrated into the physical home button the front. It comes in Space Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold color.
Talking about the pricing, the company announced at MWC 2016 that the Gionee S8 will be priced at EUR 499 (approx $554 / Rs. 37,250). Interestingly, the Gionee S8 listing on the official Chinese website of Gionee shows the device to be priced at 10,000 Yuan (approx $1,537 / Rs. 1,03,350) which is almost three times higher than the earlier announced price. While we don’t think that to be accurate, stay tuned for the exact pricing of the device.
