The Gionee Elife E7 is a pretty powerful device, and there’s a lot you can do with it, apart from the standard usage, gaming and what all you could do with the camera. But for those who don’t have an experience of using the Amigo interface that is included in the device, there are quite a lot of differences you see from the stock ROM, and some of the features might be hidden, while the others although are easy to find, you might be wondering whether they are going to do anything good.

Here are some of the best Gionee Elife E7 tips and tricks for the users who want to do more from it.

How to take a system backup

Taking a system backup is done automatically but it is mostly with the apps which are backed up by the Google account of yours, but the Gionee Elife E7 comes with the option for the backup of several items. To backup the system files, you need to go to Settings > All Settings > System > System Backup.

Here you would notice the different data types which can be backed up – Contacts, SMS, Call Log, Calendar, Email. Select the things you want to backup, and then tap on “Start Backup”. Once the process is done, you will see the option “Restore” if at all in future you wanted to restore from one of the backups taken.

How to setup backup and reset

Setting up the backup and reset is usually the first step after you start the phone for the first time and set up the initial options. If you missed doing that initially, here’s how to do it now. Go to Settings > All Settings > System > Backup & reset. Here, you need to check the option “Back up my data” and set a backup account for that.

Glove mode – to increase Touch Sensitivity

The recent flagship phones have come with different levels of screen sensitivity to touch, and Gionee’s Elife E7 is no exception. The phone comes with the glove mode where the touch sensitivity increases, and it does work quite well and is responsive when you are trying to use it while wearing the cloth gloves.

To activate this, go to Settings > All Settings > System > Accessibility and then go to the last option Glove_patterns and activate it.

Suspend button shortcut

There’s a tiny button that would get attached to one of the sides of the display, and it would give you a few shortcuts and options. This button is called Suspend button, and it comes handy when you are into an applications and find it hard to get the options directly. This is again useful when one of the system buttons aren’t working and you wanted to use them in some other way.

Go to Settings > All Settings > Personal > Suspend button and activate it to see a floating button on the screen. Tapping on it would give you four options within a large semicircle – Back, Lock, Options and Home.

How to transfer using NFC – NFC Mark

NFC (near field communication) is a connectivity option which makes it easier and even faster to share files, and a tap is enough to start the transfer. Gionee names it the NFC Mark in the Elife E7, where the profiles could be set for the particular locations and you can get these settings saved in the NFC tags.

Go to Settings > All Settings > NFC > NFC Mark. Turn the NFC on and then select the location such as Home, Work, Drive, Sleep etc. and set the connectivity options which you need turned on / off. Then tap “Sync New Tag” and you will have to use a NFC tag and tap it on the back of the Elife E7 to save the options.

How to view photos in Slideshow with moods

The photos in the Gallery app in the phone won’t be automatically made into a good looking movie as is done by the Auto Awesome feature in the Moto X, but still there is a nice slideshow shown with the music in the background based on the mood selected. To try this out, you need to go to Gallery and open any photo, go to Options and you will see the first option “Slideshow”. Here, you will see the options for the Style – Happy, Nostalgia, Peace, Passion and Romantic. The type of style will change the way photos shift one after the other.

Filtering photos with people faces

The Elife E7 has an option of filtering the photos in the Gallery app by the faces recognized by it. You just need to go to Gallery and in the camera photos album, you need to select “People” and the phone will start detecting the photos with the faces, and then organize them based on the similarity. You can then try to name the entire section having the similar faces, making it easier to filter the photos based on the name.

Downloading Wallpapers – Amigo Paper

There are of course several sources, even the direct Google search to find and download wallpapers for the beautiful 1080p display of the Gionee Elife E7. But the company has given an app which would make the search easier – Amigo Paper. This is a dedicated app which is included in the Gionee’s Amigo 2.0 UI, and the app would help in finding and downloading wallpapers.

The Amigo Paper app has the wallpapers listed based on the ratings, and categories such as Scenery, Beauty, Animal, Cars, Simple, Plant, Creative, Movie, Sports and Cate. You can select the photo as a home screen wallpaper or lock screen or both.

Changing theme, wallpaper and transition effect

Just like the Amigo Paper app for the wallpaper, Gionee has given another dedicated app for the changing of theme, wallpaper and the transition effect while shifting between the different home screens. This app is called as Color app, and it would give you the three options – Wallpaper, Theme and Effect. You could easily download the wallpapers from Amigo Paper as given above, and then after downloading, you can choose the wallpaper from the Color app. The transition effects for the shifting between home pages include Classic no bounce, Fade in, Wave, Cylinder, Shutter, Cross Flip and Random.

There are a few themes already pre-installed in the phone, and you choose one among them from the Color app.

How to Setup screen lock option

The lock screen in the Elife E7 by default comes with no lock, and you just need to swipe it up from the bottom to unlock the screen. But if the security is a concern for you, the screen lock can be set. To set that up, go to Settings > All Settings > Personal > Security and there, select “Screen lock” under Screen Security. The default option selected there is Slide. Choose Pattern / PIN and set it up, and you will then notice an extra screen which you have to pass through with the security answer and then slide to unlock the screen.

How to Check for system update

System updates are what would keep the phone at the latest software version and keep the performance of the OS at its best. Sometimes you might see an update available with the phone notifying you automatically, but sometimes there is nothing shown and you will have to manually search for the system update.

How to enable guest mode on E7

Guest mode is something where you give a limited access to the apps when passing your phone to someone known, whom you don’t want to give the access to every personal data of yours. To enable this mode, go to Settings > All Settings > Personal > Security > Guest mode and then enable it. The call logs, messages, albums and notes get hidden while the desktop is forbidden when the guest mode is turned on.

Sideload and install external apps

Sideloading apps and installing them without using the Play Store is possible in Android phones, and you can do the same in the Elife E7 too. For that, though, you need to set the phone to accept apps from unknown sources, or else you won’t be able to install the apps using the apk file. Go to Settings > All Settings > Security > Device Administration > Unknown Sources and enable this.

Now, transfer the app apk to the file system of the phone after connecting it to the computer. Then, in the File Explorer, browse to the apk file location, and open it. The installation would be just like for any Android app.

Change quick settings panel options

There are quick settings in a separate panel when you swipe to the side in the notification panel. Not only this is useful, but you can customize it according to your need. When you open that open, you will see a last option called “More” which takes you to a section where all the shortcut options are available and you just have to hold the button on the right of the setting to drag it above or below the other options.

Power Saving Mode – Power Manager app

One of the new apps in the Amigo 2.0 UI is the Power Saving mode app, which does a good job in changing the settings such that the battery life is extended by a considerable amount of time because most of the settings are tweaked. The app is named PowerManager and you can change the settings as you wish, and then enter the power saving mode to see how much the battery life is extended.

The PowerManager app also shows you the power consumption, listing the apps which use most of the battery.

Make phone faster – Phone Accelerate app

The Phone Accelerate feature is something like the Clean Master which would help in turning off all the background apps so that the performance of the phone is made better. There are gestures in this, where a shake is enough for the app to shut down the background apps and clean the processes.

Within the phone accelerate app, one can clean the processes or clean the cache with a single tap option, and there’s also a boot optimizer which can help in making the phone boot up faster.

Set mobile data limit – Traffic assistant

In the network settings of an Android phone, there are usually some options given for the user to set a limit of data network for a particular month, so that unknowingly the data network balance isn’t exhausted and you aren’t charged more by the network provider. The case with Gionee Elife E7 is different, where you get to see an app called Traffic Assistant which helps you set the data network limit.

Go to Traffic Assistant app and then go to Traffic restrictions to set the restrictions with the number of MBs to be set for a particular month. You can also assess which are the apps using the highest data and from there, you can restrict the data usage from those particular apps.

How to make a fake call

Fake call, a very useful method to move away from any danger or predicament. The fake call feature is available in the Gionee phone which have the Amigo 2.0 user interface. For this to work, you need to swipe the screen to left from the lock screen itself, and there would be a widget showing shortcuts to the camera and the Fake call. Tap on Fake call and it would take 15 seconds before a fake call is received on the phone. You can easily move away from the place.

There is a lot that can be done with the Gionee Elife E7 smartphone, but most of it is the basic stuff.
