Case of Fraudulent Investment / Ponzy against Freedom 251 Phone Launch – No Subsidy Confirmed

By launching a smartphone at just Rs. 251, the Ringing Bell is now a well known brand for most of the people in India. Though the company has launched two features phones Rising Bells Master and Rising Bell 4U along with an affordable 4G LTE smartphone ‘Smart 101,’ not many of them were aware of this brand & their models. The Freedom 251 was officially launched in India yesterday at an event in New Delhi, India. As mentioned by the company, the device is made available for booking starting 6 AM today and the website is down within a few minutes after the bookings are open, and not many of them are actually able to order the device.

Later as we earlier pointed out that the Freedom 251 offering at just Rs. 251 might be a scam, the latest tweets from BJP MP Kirit Somaiya suggests this to be true. According to him, the Freedom 251 is not subsidised or certified by the Government of India. He has written to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the Ministry of Telecommunication to look into the matter where there might be a place of major scam.

While the actual device with the offered specifications costs anything between Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,500, the company is selling the device at a mere price of just Rs. 251. Since this the rebranded version of Adcom Ikon 4 which is selling online at a price of Rs. 3,599; the same device is now being sold at just Rs. 251 by Rising Bell seem to be a possible scam. Even the delivery time for the shipping the Freedom 251 for the users who are successful in placing orders is four months.

Out the of the whole mess around the Freedom 251, Kirti Somaiya also pointed out that the whole system looks like a Ponzi scheme. Though there is no official confirmation from the Government of India, the use of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ campaigns helped in gaining much more popularity in the last two days. As of now, the bookings of Freedom 251 are paused while few rumors suggested that they will be resumed within 24 hours.
