Samsung Galaxy S7 Announced – New Features, Specs & Software Enhancements

Samsung has revealed the Next Galaxy and it’s what we expected, the new Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone from the South Korean giant sports the design language similar to the predecessor, the Galaxy S6, i.e. metal glass unibody design. But of course, there are a lot of little changes done to make it a better Galaxy smartphone. The company has brought back the waterproof feature and this time its IP68 rated, meaning its waterproof beyond 1 meter immersion and offers complete protection against dust contact.

The Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1-inch Quad HD display, it’s not pressure sensitive as speculated by some earlier reports, but Always-on functionality has been added. There would be two variants regarding the processor; one would be Exynos 8890 and second would be Snapdragon 820. Both the chipsets are 64-bit and are made on the 14nm process. The brand has also improved upon the glass body, as they come with curved back for good grip. These are the ergonomics curves that had been missing from last year’s flagship. With rounded edges and 3D glass on the front and back side, Samsung has taken compactness to the next level.

The camera department is changed quite a lot for the first time; the company has been using the 16-megapixel modules for as long as we can remember a flagship module from them. But this time, they have used Dual Pixel 12MP image sensors on the rear, which is assisted by the LED Flash and Laser autofocus. The sensor has an aperture of f/1.7, which could only mean that it will excel at snapping pictures in low light. Further, it uses a larger 1.4-micron lens this time. The front camera has a 5-megapixel sensor, the resolution is same, but aperture is changed to f/1.7, means you can take selfies in low light now.

The device is powered by a 4GB of RAM and has a standard 32GB internal storage with the option of 64GB storage as well. The company has brought back the microSD card support, with expansion up to 200GB. In some regions, the microSD card and dual SIM slots would be different while in some it would be in one slot, making it a hybrid slot, there either a microSD card can be used or two SIMs at a time. All this is powered by a 3000mAh capacity battery, which can be charged wirelessly in 130 minutes. It supports fast charging.

The Galaxy S7 is priced at Euro 699 in Europe, while at the matching price in other parts of the world. It would be available in four colors, Silver, Gold, White and Black. The company would start pre-ordering from today in selected countries, whereas it will go on sale in mid-March, March 11th.
