We won’t normally see more number of premium devices launching every month. The global brands like Samsung and LG had announced their flagships in the month of February and now in March, we have seen quite a few launches from the Chinese brands. If you are looking for some high-end devices with premium build quality and top class specifications, then below are the few smartphones that are available in selected markets.
- Xiaomi Mi 5 – Rs. 24,999
Xiaomi Mi 5 is the only high-end that was launched in India in the month of March. It is also first Snapdragon 820 powered device to be made available in the Indian market, the Indian variants of the Samsung Galaxy S7 & Galaxy S7 Edge are powered by the Exynos 8890 processors. It features a 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display and packs Snapdragon 820 SoC along with Adreno 530 GPU. As of now only the 3GB RAM variant with 32GB of built-in storage will be available in India. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with latest MIUI 7 overlaid.
The device packs a 16MP rear camera with PDAF and 4-axis OIS that can record in videos at 4K resolution. On the front is a 4MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture for capturing better selfies even in low-light conditions. It is backed by a 3,000mAh and supports Quick Charge 3.0 for faster charging speeds. The physical home button below the display also houses the fingerprint sensor. Connectivity options include 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, and a USB Type-C Port. Though the device is priced at Rs. 24,999 we have added in the premium smartphone list because of its top class specs and high-end build quality.
- Smartron tbook – Rs. 39,999
Smartron is an Indian brand that had unveiled their first ever product called ‘Smartron tbook.’ It is a 2-in-1 tablet running on Windows 10 OS and looks more like a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Apart from this, the company will be launching their first ever smartphone ‘Smartron tphone‘ on Aril 18th in Hyderabad. Talking about the tablet, it comes with a Magnesium + Aluminum build body with a kickstand on the back. The tablet is priced at Rs. 39,999 and comes with unlimited cloud storage.
It features aa 12.2-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600 pixels) resolution display. The tbook is powered by a 64-bit Intel Core M processors clocked at 2GHz. There is 4GB of RAM & 128GB of SSD storage along with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. It also includes two USB 3.0 ports, one Micro-HDMI, and one Type C with USB 3.0 for charging. The tablet comes with two 1W stereo speakers and dual microphones for noise cancellation. The sale of the tbook starts from April 8th and will be exclusively available on Gadgets 360.
- Apple iPhone SE – $399 (Rs. 26,500)
Apple had finally launched the 4-inch iPhone called as iPhone SE in the developed markets. The India launch of the device is expected in the next few weeks and might also be made available in the market by the end of April. The device features the same design as iPhone 5S that was launched in 2013 but packs almost same internal as the latest iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Apart from the 3D Touch, most of the specifications remain same as in iPhone 6S and iPhone SE. It is powered by the Apple A9 processor which makes it three times powerful than the iPhone 5S. The latest iPhone includes 2GB of RAM and comes only in 16GB and 64GB storage variants.
It sports the same 12MP iSight camera that is also found on iPhone 6S which can record videos in 4K resolution. On the front is a 1.2MP FaceTime HD Camera for selfies and video calls. Even though the device lacks 3D Touch, it can capture live photos. It runs on the latest iOS 9.3 and the Home button below the display also sports the TouchID. The 16GB variant of iPhone SE is priced at $399 in the U.S and is already available in most of the western countries. It will be available in space gray, silver, gold and rose gold color options.
- Gionee S8 – 2599 Yuan (Rs.26,700)
As we exclusively covered earlier, Gionee has officially launched their flagship launch of Gionee Elife S8 and also the high-end clamshell device Gionee W909 in China. The company has offered the pressure sensitive display that works almost same as 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Even the Quick Menu options also work fine but as of now are limited to just system apps. The S8 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest Amigo 3.2 UI overlaid.
It features a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) AMOLED display and is powered by the Helio P10 octa-core processor. The device includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the camera front, it sports a 16MP rear camera with PDAF & laser autofocus and an 8MP Selfie camera on the front. The device is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that can easily give at least a single day of mixed usage. It is equipped with a fingerprint sensor that comes integrated into the physical home button the front.
- Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro (2016) – 3499 Yuan (Rs. 36,000)
The Galaxy A9 (2016) was unveiled in December last year in China, but it is still not made available in most of the countries. Just after the launch of Galaxy A9, there are also rumors about the launch of the Galaxy A9 Pro. Earlier this week, the company has officially launched the device in China. The device sports a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and is powered by a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor.
The RAM has been upgraded from 3GB to 4GB on this new device, and the internal storage of this device is 32GB. It also includes MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. The device packs a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. While the Galaxy A9 (2016) came with a 4,000mAh battery, the latest A9 Pro includes a whopping 5,000mAh capacity. It is priced slightly higher at 3,499 Yuan (approx $540 / Rs.35,800) and is only limited to the Chinese market.
The OPPO R9 and R9 Plus are recently certified by TENAA leaking most of the information. Both the devices come with a similar design in different form factors and sports an all-metal unibody. The OPPO R9 comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display while R9 Plus comes with a slightly larger 6-inch display.While the OPPO R9 is powered by an Helio P10 octa-core processor, the larger R9 Plus comes with Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor. The devices run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with latest ColorOS 3.0 laid on top.
Both the devices come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot. It also sports a fingerprint sensor integrated into the physical home button on the front of the devices. The devices also support dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G LTE with VoLTE. The R9 is backed by a 2,850mAh battery while the 6-inch R9 Plus has a 4,120mAh battery. The R9 is priced at 2799 Yuan (approx $430 / Rs. 28,750) and the R9 Plus costs 3299 Yuan (approx $507/ Rs. 33,900) in China.
As rumors suggested, Vivo has officially launched the Vivo XPlay 5 and XPlay 5 Ultimate Edition (XPlay 5S) in China. The Vivo XPlay 5S is the world’s first ever smartphone to feature 6GB of RAM. Both the XPlay 5 & XPlay 5S are built into an Aluminum-Magnesium alloy body that offers great strength to the device. The devices feature a 5.43-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1400 pixels) Super AMOLED display with the dual curved design and Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The Vivo XPlay 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 652 processor while the XPlay 5S comes with Snapdragon 820 processor.
It is backed by a 3,600mAh battery and includes dual-chip charging technology that charges the devices in half of the time. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G+ connectivity options that give up to 300mbps speed. The fingerprint sensor on the rear can unlock the device from sleep in just 0.4 seconds while the screen is turned on; it unlocks in just 0.2 seconds. On the camera front, it has a 16MP IMX298 rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF and on the front is an 8MP selfie camera on the front with an aperture of f/2.4. Both the variants of Vivo XPlay 5 are available in Champagne Gold and Rose Gold.
