OPPO has confirmed the launch of its upcoming flagship OPPO R9 at an event scheduled on March 17th in China. While the company hasn’t mentioned any details about the device, the TENAA listing revealed the first look along with specifications of not only OPPO R9 but also the OPPO R9 Plus. Both the devices come with same design sporting an all-metal body while there are little differences in the specifications. The devices come with an oval-shaped physical home button that also houses the fingerprint sensor.
Talking about the OPPO R9, it comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with a 2.5D Glass on top of it. Under the hood is an unknown octa-core processor clocked at 1.95GHz along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also houses the MicroSD card slot for further expanding the storage upto additional 128GB. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with customized ColorOS overlaid. The device will be available in Gold and Silver color options.
It features a 16MP camera with LED flash and Autofocus on the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. The power button along with the hybrid SIM slot can be found on the right edge of the device while the volume rockers are placed on the left edge. It is backed by a 2,850mAh battery that comes with the latest VOOC flash charging that gives two hours of talk time with just five minutes of charging. The device supports dual SIM, and the connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and a MicroUSB port. It measures 6.5mm thickness and weighs 145 grams.
The OPPO R9 Plus will be enhanced version of version of OPPO R9 with much superior specifications. It comes with a slightly larger 6-inch AMOLED display with the same Full HD resolution. The device is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. There is 4GB of RAM, and internal storage is doubled up from 32GB on R9 to 64GB on R9 Plus. The device supports dual SIM dual standby with the hybrid SIM slot where you can insert a MicroSD card instead of the second SIM.
It has the same set of cameras 16MP + 8MP as on the OPPO R9. The device is kept powered on by the 4,120mAh with the VOOC flash charging support. The listing shows the OPPO R9 Plus to come with much older Android 5.0 Lollipop, but we can expect the Android Marshmallow in the near future. Compared to the OPPO R9, the R9 Plus is 0.9mm thicker by measuring 7.4mm thickness. It will be launched in the colors – Gold and Rose Gold.
While there will not be significant changes in the above mentioned specifications, take this with a pinch of salt since there is no official confirmation from the company. The official launch of the OPPO R9 and R9 Plus is exactly two weeks away from today, so stay tuned for the official details of both the devices on the launch day.
