Alcatel One Touch Hero 2 Phablet Announced with Octa-core CPU, Android KitKat
Alcatel has officially announced the next phablet in their lineup, the Alcatel One Touch Hero 2 with a whooping 6-inch display and the Octa-core CPU powering although not everything in this upgrade can be called an improvement because while trying to make the device more powerful, there is a compromise seen in the battery.
Having a full HD IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, the Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2 has a Dragontrail glass for protection and the oleophobic coating to keep fingerprints away. This comes with the One Glass Solution (OGS) lamination for further protection of the display, and what is made even better in the device from the predecessor is the internal power – an Octa-core CPU (Mediatek MT6592) true octa-core processor clocking at 2 GHz, where each core runs at the same speed, and this is supported by Mali GPU and 2GB DDR3 RAM.
The smartphone would run the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS and it has quite a lot of good connectivity options, including LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi. The smartphone has a 13-megapixel rear shooter along with a 5-megapixel front facing camera for selfies. The rear camera comes with Optical Image Stabilization, and it can record 1080p Full HD videos at 30fps. The camera features include Face detection, QR Code Scanner, Camera Live Filters, Extended Panorama, smile detection, geo-tagging, HDR, panorama, night mode, sport mode, 4-shots, burst mode and timer. Alcatel has included a stylus just like the one Samsung has for the Galaxy Note series, which is said to have an optimized handwriting recognition capability.
The storage in the Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2 is 16GB while one can expand that by a maximum of 32GB using a MicroSD card. The device has a battery with the 3100 mAh capacity, surprisingly lesser than the predecessor Alcatel Hero that had a 3400 mAh battery packed in. According to the company, the phone is going to be made available for sale in Europe by the end of September, and it would be priced at €350. There is no information about the availability outside the European market.
