HTC has officially unveiled the HTC Desire 820 along with two other smartphones in the Indian market, today at an official event. While the Desire 820 comes with an octa-core CPU, the other variant Desire 820q has a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, and both the devices come with 4G LTE Cat 4 connectivity.
Targeting the consumers who love large screens, HTC has released these devices with no differences in the external aspect and only the processor is different in them. Both the smartphones come with a 5.5-inch 720p HD display and they have the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. While the Desire 820 comes with 2GB RAM, there’s just 1GB RAM in the Desire 820q. The internal storage in both the devices is 16GB and the storage is expandable with MicroSD card, and the smartphones run Android 4.4.4 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 UI.
HTC has placed a 13MP camera on the rear side and 8MP one on the front for both Desire 820 and Desire 820q. The pricing details will be updated soon. We are tipped that the Desire 820 will be available from November 1st / 2nd (Thanks Shimon!)

A quick search on Zauba, the home to India’s import and export data, reveals 20 units each of HTC A50 and A51 have been imported to Delhi. Moreover, HTC is holding an event in Delhi tomorrow.
“Witness the unveiling of HTC’s new offering with an added touch of bollywood glamour…”
Coincidence much? Well, HTC A50 turns out to be HTC Desire 820 LTE-A while A51 is just a variant of the aforementioned (no brainer). Running through the info provided by Zauba regarding these imports, it’s a dual sim device sporting a 5.5 inch display while the price being Rs. 12,101 and Rs. 13,336 for A50 and A51 respectively. Of course these won’t be the actual prices, but considering HTC Desire 816’s pricing at Rs. 22,000 (approx), I don’t expect this to be priced lower than that considering it’s upgraded specs. Still, HTC could surprise us if they wish to, in the market right now where pricing has been really different from what we have been seeing in the past.
Here’s a quick recap of it’s specs:
Display:5.5 inches, 720p, LCD (~267 ppi pixel density)
Memory: Internal 16GB + microSD, up to 128 GB
RAM: 2GB
Camera: 13 MP (rear) with LED flash + 8 MP (front)
OS: Android v4.4.2 KitKat
CPU: Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 (Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53)
GPU: Adreno 405
Battery: 2600 mAh, Non-removable Li-Po battery
Colours: Marble White, Tuxedo Grey, Santorini White, Milky-way Grey, Tangerine White, Saffron Grey, Flamingo Grey, Blue Misty, Monarch Orange
It’s really great how HTC India has managed to bring HTC Desire 820 in India so fast, especially after the several devices from them that have been making their entry quite late into the Indian market, after being released in other markets. All that remains to be seen is how aptly it is priced and how well it performs. Stay tuned for more updates.
