Xiaomi’s Redmi smartphones are very popular among the consumers looking for a budget smartphone. Now, the company is teasing to launch a new Redmi smartphone in India on November 30th. From the images posted on Redmi India’s social media handles, we can identify the device as Redmi 5A. It was launched last month in China as the successor to Redmi 4A. The specifications of the Indian variant will mostly remain same as on the Chinese variant.

Much like the Redmi 4A, the new Redmi 5A also comes with a polycarbonate body. Considering its cheaper price tag, we don’t think it will be a huge issue. Even the selfie-centric Redmi Y1 launched at Rs. 8,999 also came with a polycarbonate body. Talking about the specifications, there won’t be much difference between the Redmi 5A and Redmi 4A. However, the Redmi 5A comes with a refreshed design offering slightly curved edges on the rear.

On the front, the smartphone comes with a 5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, we will mostly see the same Snapdragon 425 octa-core processor as seen on its predecessor. In China, the Redmi 5A came only in 2GB RAM variant with 16GB of internal storage. There will also be a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage up to 128GB. The device also supports dual SIM dual standby using the hybrid slot.

The device will be backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery and comes with 5V/1A (5W) power adapter. In terms of optics, the Redmi 5A sports a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. FYI, the earlier launched Redmi 4A featured a 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture. We also expect the device to come with MIUI 9 out of the box. It measures 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35 mm and weighs 137 grams.

Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. There will be no fingerprint sensor scanner on this device as well. Both the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device. In China, the Redmi 5A is priced at just 599 Yuan (approx $90 / Rs. 5,900). Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for the official specifications and Indian pricing of the Redmi 5A smartphone.
