Xiaomi has finally launched the much-awaited successor to the Redmi Note phablet. The newly launched handset is not named Redmi Note 2 Prime, but it’s instead called as the Redmi Note Prime. Released at a competitive pricing of Rs 8,499, the new handset from the Chinese Internet startup would be giving good competition in the mid-range segment.

The Redmi Note Prime sports a 5.5-inch 720p display, which accounts for around 267PPI (Pixel Per Inch) pixel density. Powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, which clocks at 1.2 GHz is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of Internal storage on the device. You can expand the storage space up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

In the camera department, the rear camera is of 13-megapixel image sensor with LED Flash while the front camera is of 5-megapixel image sensor. The rear camera has an aperture of f/2.2 and front facing camera sports a 28mm wide-angle lens. The connectivity options include 4G LTE support, Dual SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB and OTG support.

Running on the Android Kitkat 4.4, it is optimized with latest MIUI 7 interface, which is Xiaomi’s custom interface. But again, the device is powered by an outdated operating system, and this might be the disadvantage that consumers don’t want. All this is powered by a 3100mAh capacity battery that should offer good battery life.

xiaomi redmi 2 prime, made in india

The interesting fact about new Redmi Note Prime is Made in India product. After announcing the Make in India campaign couple of months back, where the company is setting up its manufacturing unit in the state of Andhra Pradesh, they have launched the Made in India. This is the second handset that is Made in India by Xiaomi, first one being the Redmi 2 Prime, which is a budget-friendly handset.

Overall, it is quite similar to the original Redmi Note 4G that was announced last year. Currently priced at Rs 7,999, it is quite good option itself if your budget is tight. Other options that you have in this range are the Lenovo K3 Note and Yu Yureka. The new Redmi Prime is exclusively available for purchase on the Amazon India’s website. The first sale of the device commences from December 15th, i.e. tomorrow at 10 AM IST.
