The Chinese upstart Xiaomi has been continuing its popularity as an affordable smartphone company. Though the company will miss its target of selling 80-100 million smartphones by the end of this year, it can still cross the 2014 sales of 61.1 million devices since the company had announced that it had sold 34.7 million devices in the first half of 2015. With the increased local competition and slow down sales, we cannot expect high sales in the coming years. The Redmi 2 has been one of the best devices from Xiaomi to launch in 2015.
The Redmi 2 has been one of the best devices from Xiaomi to launch in 2015 and recently the possible successor for it with the model number 2015811 is listed on TENAA which we expect to be the entry-level Redmi 3. Now Xiaomi had confirmed to launch the Redmi 3 in China on January 12th. Instead of the polycarbonate body, the company went for a metal body that gives a premium look to the device. While all the Redmi devices came with a 4.7-inch display, the Redmi 3 might feature a slightly bigger 5-inch display with same HD (1280 x 720) resolution.
Under the hood is the unknown octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz along with 2GB of RAM. It also has 16GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion up to 32GB. The device supports dual SIM dual standby by using a hybrid SIM slot where you can place a MicroSD card instead of the second SIM. It runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with MIUI 7 overlaid. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port
The camera department has also seen some upgrades, where the 8MP rear camera on Redmi 2 is upgraded to a 13MP on Redmi 3. On the front, we can find a 5MP selfie camera instead of a 2MP on the earlier Redmi devices. It measures 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and weighs 143 grams. It will be available in the colors Silver, Grey and all new Gold color. There are few rumors suggesting the device to be priced at 699 Yuan (approx $105 / Rs. 7,100). Stay tuned for the official specifications and pricing, since the launch event is a few days away.
