Xiaomi Mi 9 with Snapdragon 855 SoC & 48MP Triple Rear Cameras Officially Launched

After teasing from the last few weeks, Xiaomi has officially launched its 2019 flagship smartphones at an event held in Beijing, China. The company launched the Xiaomi Mi 9 as the successor to the last year’s Mi 8. Xiaomi also launched the Mi 9 Explorer Edition with a transparent back as well. For the Mi 9, the company is sticking with a similar design as its predecessor. However, it has introduced some breakthrough features alongside the latest hardware.
The device comes with a curved glass back body in the gradient finish. It now comes with a triple camera set up on the rear. On the front, the device now uses waterdrop notch featuring just a front camera. With the bottom chin measuring just 3.6mm thick, the device also offers 90.7% screen to body ratio. It sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Under the hood is the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform clocked at 2.84GHz.
It sports Kryo 485 CPU, Adreno 640 GPU, and Hexagon 690 DSP. With the Mi 9, Xiaomi is also introducing Game Turbo technology which enhances the device performance for better gameplay experience. It comes with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS2.1 flash storage. Talking about the cameras, the triple camera setup on the rear uses 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.75 aperture along with 12MP Samsung S5K3M5 sensor with f/2.2 aperture for 2x optical zoom and 16MP Sony IMX481 sensor with f/2.2 aperture for 117-degree super wide-angle view.
For selfies, there is a 20MP front-facing camera that can also be used for AI face unlock. The camera app on the Mi 9 comes loaded with several AI-base features auto scene detection, AI face beauty and AI portrait mode. With all these specifications, the device comes with a relatively smaller 3,300mAh battery. However, it now supports 27W fast charging using the proprietary power adapter. The company also introduced 20W wireless fast charging technology.
It also comes with 5th gen In-display fingerprint scanner for faster recognition. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-frequency GPS, IR Blaster, and USB type-C port. The company also the Mi 9 Explorer Edition with transparent back. While the specifications remain same, the Mi 9 Explorer Edition comes with 12GB of RAM. Coming to the pricing, the Mi 9 with 6GB and 8GB is priced at 2999 Yuan and 3299 Yuan respectively. The Mi 9 Explorer Edition with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage costs 3999 Yuan.
