Redmi had launched its budget and mid-range smartphones – the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India, earlier this year. And, today the Chinese manufacturer had launched yet another mid-range smartphone, which is a selfie-centric smartphone. Xiaomi had launched the successor to the Redmi Y2 smartphone – the Redmi Y3 that features a 32MP selfie shooter, which is the first from the company in this price bracket smartphones. The Redmi Y series phones have been popular amongst the users with sales of up to 7 million since launch.
The new Redmi Y3 design-build is similar to what we have seen on the earlier released Redmi Note 7 series, which came with Aura Design and the new Redmi Y3 series features the same, which the company calls it Aura Prism Design. The device is splashproof that comes with Xiaomi’s P2I hydrophobic layer coating alongside the gradient color finish as well. The Redmi Y3 features a 6.26-inch HD+ Dot Notch display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The Y3 display is further protected by 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Since this is a camera-centric smartphone, the Redmi Y3 comes with dual rear cameras on the back. The device features a 12MP primary rear camera with an aperture of f/2.2, which is further paired by a 2MP secondary depth-sensing camera as well. These rear cameras are AI-powered with 33 screen recognition capabilities. The dual rear cameras support Electronic Image Stabilisation and Xiaomi had also integrated built-in Google Lens within the camera interface as well.
The primary USP of the Redmi Y3, which the company has been promoting for a while now is the front-facing camera. The Redmi Y3 features 32MP selfie shooter that is AI-powered with features like AI Portrait, and Auto HDR mode, and also Palm Shutter as well. The Y3 selfie shooter also features Electronic Image Stabilisation and further the camera can shoot up to 1080p video recording at 30fps.
As for the other prominent specifications is concerned, the Redmi Y3 under the hood is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC, which is a 14nm build octa-core processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU. On the storage front, the Redmi Y3 is offered in two storage variants, a 3GB+32GB and a 4+64GB RAM storage variants respectively. There’s an optional storage expansion too with the support of up to 512GB via microSD card.
The Redmi Y3 is further kept alive a decent 4000mAh battery and the device runs on Xiaomi’s MIUI 10, which is based on Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie. As for authentication, the Redmi Y3 features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and the company had also introduced new AI 360-degree face unlock with the Redmi Y3. On the connectivity front, the Redmi Y3 supports Bluetooth 4.2, Dual VoLTE and additionally features IR blaster as well.
As for the pricing, the Redmi Y3 is priced at Rs 9,999 for the 3GB+32GB variant and the larger 4GB+64GB of the Y3 is priced at Rs 11,999. The first sale of the Redmi Y3 has been scheduled on April 30th and the device is sold as Amazon Exclusive alongside Mi website and Mi offline stores as well. The Redmi Y3 will be featuring in three different gradient color variants that include – Prime Black, Bold Red, and Elegant Blue.
