Firmware Updates
Xiaomi already working on Android 7.0 Nougat based MIUI 9

The newly launched MIUI 8 by Xiaomi is a major upgrade to the existing version in more than one way. Not only the new ROM is super intuitive, but it also addresses several pertinent issues which were bugging the customers for a long time. MIUI 8 was officially unveiled along with the Xiaomi Mi Max— the handset which has been gathering all the attention, of late. However, still MIUI 8 is being rolled out to few devices at a time, the company has taken a step towards the future by teasing it’s upcoming MIUI 9 which has recently surfaced.
Xiaomi announces at it’s forums, that it has officially obtained the Android N source code from Google, and also asked fans if they would like multi-window support based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Considering the fact that the company has been extremely poor with rolling out updates, this is shocking. Well, that’s not all to it, in the same thread, it is also mentioned that development of MIUI 9 is soon set to begin soon.
We don’t expect the new UI to arrive anytime soon as the company is yet to roll out the MIUI 8 globally. Also if you check the records, then you might fid out that it is not good with updates. When the 2014 flagship phone, the Xiaomi Mi 4 was launched, it came with MIUI 6 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. A year later into 2015, it was updated to MIUI 7, again based on Android KitKat. This is not just with older flagships; even the new devices suffer from this very known issue.
Also talking about the MIUI 8, it includes several new features like caller ID, updated calculator app, integrated payment and recharge options by collaborating with Mobikwik, App Lock and much more. The new Gallery app comes with video editing and cloud storage options. So we expect the new MIUI 9 will have even better features up its sleeves. But with all being said, we don’t expect MIUI 9 until the second half of 2017. Stay tuned for more information on the new MIUI 9.
