Today we are going a hear a new name in the smartphone industry, and out of routine we are now seeing a new UK-based smartphone manufacturer, Wileyfox debuting with two Cyanogen-powered smartphones, Swift and Storm. The company wants to compete with major manufacturers like Samsung and Apple by providing high-end technology at much lower price than what others offered. The company follows online-only sales model like Xiaomi and OnePlus to cut-down the commissions that help to provide devices at lower prices.
While unveiling the brand, Nick Muir, CEO, Wileyfox, said, “We have decided we wanted to offer a bit more choice into the market.” He also added “These handsets are not expensive, but we can still make use of high-end components.” Both the device will be running on Cyanogen OS 12.1, and these are the first devices to run on Cyanogen 12.1 out-of-the-box.
The Swift sports a 5-inch HD (12870×720) IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top it. The device is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, coupled with Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.
It has 13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies. The device supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G LTE connectivity. The device comes powered by a battery of 2,500mAh that can give 10 hours of talk time and can last up to 200 hours on standby.
The device measures 141.15 x 71 x 9.37 mm and weighs 135 grams. Along with 4G LTE, Connectivity on this device includes 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPA.A-GPS, and micro USB 2.0. It is priced at £129 (approx $200) and is available in the color sandstone black.
The Wileyfox Storm features some better specs than the Swift, It sports a 5.5-inch (1920×1080) IPS display with a pixel density of 400ppi. It is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot support (up to 128GB).
It features a 20MP Sony EXMOR IMX220 rear camera with dual LED flash and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. On the front, it has an 8MP camera with LED flash. The device is powered by a non-removable 2,500mAh battery.
The device measures 155.6 x 77.3 x 9.2 mm and weighs 155 grams. Like the Swift, the Storm is also a dual SIM device, but it comes with a hybrid slot where you can also add a MicroSD card instead of a single SIM. Connectivity on this device includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPA/A-GPS and micro USB 2.0. With all these features, the Wileyfox Storm costs only £199 (approx $315).
