In June last year, Samsung had launched the 9.6-inches Galaxy Tab E with Wi-Fi only connectivity option. Now the company came up with a smaller 8-inch variant Galaxy Tab E 8.0 with a higher price tag and better specifications. Unlike its predecessor, the 8-inch variants support 4G LTE and is also able to make calls. Both the variants of the Galaxy Tab E looks similar in design and sports polycarbonate body.

As the name suggests, the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 comes with 8-inch WXGA TFT display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. Under the hood is the unknown quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz while we expect it to be the 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chipset. There is 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage that can be further expandable up to 128GB via provided MicroSD card slot, and the company is also offering 100GB of OneDrive cloud storage for free.

On the camera part, it has a 5MP rear camera with no LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies and video calls, these are the same set of cameras that are also featured on Galaxy Tab E 9.6. It is backed by a 5,000mAh which is rated to deliver more than 13 hours of internet usage or video playback. The pre-installed Microsoft Office apps make the creating and editing of documents easier than ever.

Samsung has partnered with several online content providers like LiTV to offer the premium services for free for limited time. Samsung’s ‘Kids Time Plus’ app provides educational and entertainment content along with the option to track the usage for parents. For the parents, whose kids access the tablet and internet can find out their usage of particular usage and can limit the time for using that app. It measures 212.1 x 126.1 x 8.9 mm and weighs 360 grams.

The tablet runs on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI overlaid. Connectivity options on this tablet include 4G LTE (FDD-LTE 700/900/1800/2600MHz, TDD-LTE 2600MHz), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GLONASS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. As of now the listing confirms the tablet to come in ‘Classic White’ color while we can also expect the Black color variant of the same.

The Galaxy Tab E 8.0 is priced higher at TWD 8,990 (approx $268 / Rs. 18,000) when compared to the TWD 6,990 (approx $208 / Rs. 14,000) price tag of Galaxy Tab E 9.6. It will be officially made available for sale by the end of this month in Taiwan; there is no information about the launch of this tablet in other markets.
