The latest flagships from Samsung, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are officially launched today in China. The company has also sent out the invites for the India launch that will happen tomorrow. While both the S7 and S7 Edge are already available to pre-order in the U.S and the U.K, the actual sales begin from March 11th along with many other countries. For the early pre-orders in India, the company is also offering a Gear VR for free while the early adopters in China will get the devices at 20% discounted price. Though, the Important point here is that the first 2000 consumers would only be getting this discount benefit.
Samsung is having very high hopes from their flagships and has been promoting the VR headset for free along with the purchase though an instant discount that could help them attract more buyers. The VR headset is something that’s already overpriced and something that does not bring more value to someone, over the wireless charging cradle if bundled instead along with a discounted pricing. We do hope they follow the same practice of 20% discount in India the way they have done in China instead of dumping their VR headsets, which can only be known tomorrow when the launch happens.
It is evident that Samsung has been losing market share in China that went recently down to 7.7% while Apple and Xiaomi gained at a staggering rate. These competitive pricing and activities could be a game changer because 20% is a big price difference clearly giving a good attention to Samsung for their new devices.
The actual price of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are 4888 yuan (approx $750 / Rs. 50,350) and 5688 yuan (approx $873/ Rs. 58,600) respectively. The device comes with 32GB of internal storage, and there is also a MicroSD card for storage expansion upto an additional 200GB. It is available in Platinum Gold & Onyx Black color options. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are available to try & buy which means the user can spend some time with the actual device before purchasing it.
As said earlier, the discounted Galaxy S7 Edge costs only 4550 Yuan (approx $700 / Rs. 46,900) which makes it cheaper than the normal Galaxy S7. Till the recently launched Galaxy Note 5, the company used to announce price drop after the first few months, and many of the consumers used to wait for that time. Now with the early discounts, we can also expect the rise in the early sales for the both the devices. Stay tuned for the official Indian pricing of Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge since the launch event is scheduled for tomorrow in New Delhi, India.
Update: The 20% discount on Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge in China is limited to 2,000 consumers.
