With the increased competition from Chinese manufacturers, Samsung is now more focused on the entry-level and mid-range segment in the Indian smartphone market. Earlier we had exclusively published about the upcoming Galaxy On series smartphones and today the company had officially launched two new smartphones Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7 in the Indian market. Both these devices are launched last month in China.

Talking about the Galaxy On5, it is priced at Rs. 8,990 and offers some better specifications compared to the other smartphones at this same price range. As announced earlier, Samsung had earlier launched the made in India smartphone Samsung Z3 which will also be exported to other Asian countries.  The Galaxy On series smartphones will also be produced in India at the Samsung’s Noida plant.

Coming to the specifications of the device, it sports a 5-inch HD TFT display, but we expected it to be an AMOLED since the Z3 that was priced lower than On5 comes with an AMOLED display. Under the hood, the device is powered by the in-house 1.3GHz Exynos 3475 quad-core processor along with 1.5GB of RAM. It has an 8GB of internal storage out of which only 4.3GB is available to the end user, but there is a MicorSD card slot for storage expansion upto 128GB.

As we earlier reported, the Galaxy On series smartphones will be sold exclusively through Flipkart. On the camera front, it has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. The device supports dual SIM and offers 4G LTE connectivity. The 2,600mAh battery on this device can easily last upto 24 hours by using the ultra power saving mode.

The My Galaxy app that was unveiled alongside the Tizen-powered Z3 will also come pre-installed on this device. Comparing the specifications of the Galaxy On5 with Samsung Z3, the On5 looks like the Android variant for the Tizen powered device. The ‘Ultra Data Saving Mode’ can save decent amount of the data on your device by compressing the images and data. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz laid on top of it.
