Samsung had launched few affordable smartphones that are well received in the market. The company had launched few devices under Galaxy J and Galaxy E series that made it competitive against the likes of Chinese brands. Out of the both, the Galaxy J series has seen popularity in the Indian market. The Galaxy J1 (SM-J110) with entry-level specifications is the first device to launch under this series and a few months ago, it is accompanied by the launch of Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 smartphones.

Now the fresh leak suggests the launch of Galaxy J1 (2016) with the model number SM-J120F will be the successor for 2015 launched Galaxy J1. It comes with few improved specifications like a slightly larger 4.5-inch display instead of the 4.3-inch on the 2015 Galaxy J1, but the WVGA (800 x 480) resolution stays same on both the devices. It runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz UI laid on top of it.

It is powered by an Exynos 3457 quad-core processor which is yet to be announced by the company. The Galaxy J1 (2016) has 1GB of RAM which is double than what it is offered on original Galaxy J1. It is expected to include 4GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. On the camera part, the benchmark listing shows a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.

The original Galaxy J1 was priced at Rs. 7,190 and the Zauba listing shows the value of Galaxy J1 (2016) around Rs. 6,700 while the final pricing is expected to be around Rs. 7,000 price range. At this price range, there are other devices that come with better specification. Even the Tizen-powered Samsung Z3 and Galaxy On5 will be the better alternatives at slightly higher price.

Last week the company had also officially unveiled the 2016 Galaxy A5, A7, A9 smartphones in China and the international announcements are expected at the upcoming CES 2016. In 2015, even though the company had stayed at the No.1 position, the market shares are drastically decreased. With the tougher competition from Chinese counterparts, Samsung is now more focusing on the entry-level segments.

The official announcement regarding the Galaxy J1 (2016) is expected in the new few weeks. The company had already sent out the media invites for the CES 2016 press conference that will be held on January 5th in Las Vegas. A few details about the upcoming flagship Galaxy S7 is expected to be announced at the same stage. Stay tuned for more updates!
