Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5

Samsung is finally adopting metal body for its smartphones, and after the two smartphones with metal chassis on the side (Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4), the company has just announced two smartphones with full metal designs, and moreover, these are unibody designs unlike the biggest list of smartphones in the Galaxy range that always had the plastic back that was removable.

The main focus is on the younger customers, because Samsung has added a 5-megapixel front facing camera and is focusing more on social networking in the devices. Both the devices are kept quite slim in profile as well, as the Galaxy A3 is 6.9mm thick and the Galaxy A5 is 6.7mm thick. The features for front camera, i.e. Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Rear Cam Selfie, and Beauty Face that were limited and introduced in Galaxy Note 4, are now going to be a part of the software in the Galaxy A3 and A5.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 comes with a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display and it has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (Snapdragon chipset but unspecified about the model), 2GB of RAM, and there’s a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera as well. The device has 16GB internal storage, and a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion, and the battery embedded is of 2300 mAh capacity.

The Galaxy A3 on the other hand, comes with a 4.5-inch qHD display with 960×540 pixels resolution, and the chipset isn’t mentioned for now. The other specs as well are lower to that of the A5, because there is 1GB RAM, 1900 mAh battery and the rear camera has a 8-megapixel lens.

What is common in both the smartphones apart from the metallic body and 5MP selfie camera, is the Android 4.4 KitKat running with TouchWiz UI over it, and the LTE variants of both A3 and A5 will have NFC chips in them. The Ultra Power Saving Mode is going to be a part of the software as well, and for the first time, Samsung is offering four themes to choose from, unlike the standard TouchWiz UI and its theme that has been a part of every Galaxy smartphone before these.

Samsung is throwing some good color options to choose from, including Pearl White, Midnight Black, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue and Champagne Gold. These A series Galaxy smartphones are going to be made available from November 2014. What could be a little disappointing, is the fact that the phones will be available only in select markets.

“The Galaxy A5 and A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics. “These devices make our advanced Galaxy experience even more accessible to young and trend conscious consumers.”
