A year old Indian smartphone manufacturer, Ringing Bells has launched a smartphone priced at just Rs. 251 (approx $3.6). The device named as ‘Freedom 251‘ has been made official through their website but later in the evening there would be a launch event in New Delhi with government officials being a part of the mega event.
Earlier to this, we have seen affordable Android-powered Aakash tablets from the collaboration between Government of India and Canada-based manufacturer Datawind. The same company also announced a partnership with Reliance to launch a smartphone at Rs. 999. Till date, the device hasn’t been made available in the market.
The Ringing Bells launched its affordable 4G LTE smartphone Smart101 at a price of just Rs. 2,999 (approx $44). It came with a 5-inch display IPS display with qHD (960 x 480 pixels) resolution and is powered by an unknown quad-core processor. Even at such a low price, it includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot.
Coming to the camera department, it has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 3.2MP selfie camera on the front. It is backed by a 2,800mAh battery that is said to offer 10 hours of talk time and lasts upto 300 hours on standby. The connectivity options on this dual SIM include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, MicroUSB 2.0 port along with 4G LTE.
While the Smart 101 came with impressive at a such a low price, the upcoming smartphone can only feature the basic specifications. Apart from the smartphones, the company also launched two other featured phones named Ringing Bells 4U and Ringing Bells Master priced at Rs. 799 and Rs. 999 respectively.
