Red Magic 3 Gaming Smartphone with 90Hz Display & Built-in Cooling Fan Launched

Nubia’s Red Magic has officially unveiled its third iteration of Red Magic gaming smartphone in China today. The company has been teasing the device from the last couple of months. The all-new Red Magic 3 (NX629J) takes the design cues from the previous Red Magic smartphones. It sports a metal body with a diamond-cut surface and vector aesthetics. Also, the company brought back the 3.5mm audio jack which was missing the Red Magic Mars smartphone. Compared to the recently launched Black Shark 3 smartphone, the new Red Magic 3 comes with several gaming specific features.

On the front, the device comes with a 6.65-inch notch-less AMOLED HDR display with Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It also includes DC Dimming feature to offer flicker-free experience. Under the hood, it comes powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform built on 7nm FinFET node. It comes coupled with Kryo 485 CPU and Adreno 640 GPU. It comes with up to 12GB of RAM LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 flash storage. The device also supports the F2FS (Flash-Friendly File System) which will be faster than the conventional file system seen on other Android smartphones.

Coming to the cameras, Red Magic is sticking with the single rear camera setup. The new Red Magic 3 comes with a 48MP Sony IMX586 camera on the rear with 1.6µm pixel size and f/1.7 aperture. For selfies, there is a 16MP front-facing camera with 2.0µm pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. The company also mentioned the device to support 8K video recording and 1920 fps super slo-mo videos. It runs on the latest RedMagic OS 2.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. The Red Magic 3 sports stereo speakers with DTS 7.1 surround-sound support, three microphones, and 4D haptic feedback.

As expected, the Red Magic 3 will come with a huge 5,000mAh non-removable battery and supports 27W fast charging based Quick Charge 4.0 technology. It is also the first smartphone to come with a built-in cooling fan to keep the temperatures in control. There are air vents on the rear and side edges. With all these specifications and features, the device measures 171.7 x 78.5 x 9.65 mm and weighs 215 grams. On the side edge, the company also included the Red Magic triggers for more controls while playing games. Even the fingerprint scanner can be customized for a specific control.

The company also announced a 5G mod which can be connected using the magnetic pins on the side edge. There is also add-on dock which brings LAN port along with an additional 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port. Even with the air vents, the Red Magic 3 is IP55 certified for water and dust resistance. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac (2.4Ghz & 5GHz), NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm audio jack, GPS, and USB Type-C port. The fingerprint scanner is also placed on the rear of the device.

Talking about the pricing, the base variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage is priced at CNY 2899 (approx USD 430 / INR 30,000). There 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of internal storage comes with a price tag of CNY 3199 (approx USD 475 / INR 33,000). The Red Magic 3 also comes in 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB storage variants and is priced at CNY 3499 (approx USD 520 / INR 36,000) and CNY 4299 (approx USD 640 / INR 44,500) respectively.
