Last year, Xiaomi had launched two new flagship smartphones called Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX smartphone in China. The Mi MIX is the three-sided bezel-less smartphone that came with the all-ceramic body. Xiaomi has collaborated with the French-based designer, Philippe Starck to design the Mi MIX. While the Mi MIX isn’t the first bezel-less smartphone, the company has totally redefined the smartphone world with all the innovative features and master class design. While the cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology replaces the regular earpiece, the IR proximity sensor is replaced with the ultrasonic proximity sensor.
Earlier this year, Philippe Starck has once again been confirmed as a partner in designing the second-gen Mi MIX smartphone. There are already several leaks about the upcoming Mi MIX 2 on the internet. Earlier this month, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi has posted a screenshot on Weibo that came with the 18:9 aspect ratio. While there is no official confirmation, we expect that to come from the Mi MIX 2 smartphone. Today, Philippe Starck’s Facebook page has posted the concept video of the upcoming Mi MIX 2. The device in the video comes with the three-sided bezel-less display and the bottom bezel is now very thin when compared to its predecessor.
While the Mi MIX came with the flat screen display, the new Mi MIX 2 display has slight curves on both the sides. With the curved edges and rounded corners, the Mi MIX 2 looks gorgeous. The bottom chin of the design holds the selfie camera. From the video, we can see the USB Type-C port along with speaker grill on the bottom edge. While this is mentioned to be a concept design, we expect the Mi MIX 2 to come out with the same design as shown in the video. The Mi MIX with the ceramic body is also highly fragile and we have broken our own Mi MIX display. With the Mi MIX 2, the company should offer some sort of protection to the display and the body.
It should be running on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box. The device was also listed on the benchmarking website, GeekBench revealing the key specifications. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and 6GB of RAM. The smartphone has scored 1929 points in single-core test and 6431 points in the multi-core test. Based on the leaks, we will be looking at 6.4-inch Quad HD (2540 x 1440 pixels) display on the front. There will be a 19MP camera on the rear and a 13MP camera on the front for selfies. With all these specifications, the Mi MIX 2 might come powered by a 4,500mAh battery.
