The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is said to be launching the next iteration of the Mi Mix 2 smartphone next month. So far, we have heard a bunch of rumors about this smartphone and all of them point towards a very promising device. However, now we have yet another new report which tells us that the smartphone will have 3D facial recognition for unlocking the smartphone.
Yes, you read that right. The upcoming Mi Mix 2 smartphone will have 3D facial recognition and the same has been confirmed through an alleged screenshot which is said to be taken on the Mi Mix 2’s lock screen. As you see from the screenshot, there is an outline of a head, which prompts the user to look at the device to unlock it. According to the source, this feature is said to be a part of the new MIUI 9.
Although the feature is said to be a part of MIUI 9, the source also says that this feature will be exclusive to the Mi Mix 2 smartphone and other devices won’t get even if it is eligible to get the MIUI 9 update. However, do make a note that this info is not officially confirmed yet and hence we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt.
And considering the fact the screenshot itself does not really reveal anything about how the feature works, it is quite hard to speculate. However, from what it looks like, we can expect to see a similar feature is also present on some of the other devices on the market like the Galaxy S8, Sony XA1, etc. Technically, the process should be quite easy and effortless. It could be as simple as holding the device straight upto your face and it should unlock it.
However, it is safe to try and restrict ourselves speculating too much and wait for the official announcement which as mentioned earlier, is not very far. Other expected specs include a high-quality build, high-end processor and 6GB-8GB of RAM. While we wait for this device to become official, we would like to hear your thoughts on this.
