OnePlus has already rolled out the Android 8.0 Oreo-based Oxygen OS Open Beta update for the Oneplus 3 and Oneplus 3T users. At the yesterday’s OnePlus 5T launch event, the company revealed the Android 8.0 Oreo roadmap for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones. First, the OnePlus 5 gets the Android 8.0 Oreo Open Beta update by the end of this month. The newly launched OnePlus 5T will be receiving it in late December. Both the devices will get the Stable Oxygen OS update based on Android Oreo in early 2017.
The company is also developing a new app called “OnePlus Reach” for transferring the data from old phone to the new OnePlus smartphone with a single tap. OnePlus also introduced the new Face Unlock feature with the OnePlus 5T smartphone. We also expect the same feature to be soon made available for the OnePlus 5 via a software update. Unlike Apple iPhone X, there is no special hardware for the facial recognition on OnePlus 5T.
Both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T also shares the same 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor on the front with 1.0μm pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. With the Oreo-based Beta 12 update for OnePlus 3T and Beta 21 update for OnePlus 3, the company added the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, Auto-fill, Smart text selection, and new Quick Settings UI. The Oreo-based Oxygen OS also included the built-in Parallel app for using duplicate apps like two WhatsApp or WeChat accounts.
Though the OnePlus 5T runs on Oxygen OS 4.7 based on Android 7.1 Nougat, it also includes the Parallel app. The Oxygen OS 4.7 also comes with features like new icon packs, gallery map, and also a re-designed notification bar. If you are a OnePlus 3/3T user with Oreo-based Oxygen OS Open Beta update installed, share your experience in the comments section below.
