Xiaomi India has launched its Android One smartphone — the Mi A3 in the country. The successor to the Mi A2, launched early last year has arrived and the new Android One powered Mi A3 has earlier been launched in other markets including Spain, last month. While Xiaomi has been launching its sub-brand Redmi phones in the country for quite some time now, this comes afresh with Mi branding.
The Mi A3 carries the predecessor’s legacy forward by implementing stock Android experience, which is the latest offering from Google — thanks to the Android One program. As for the technical details is concerned, the Mi A3 features a 6.08-inch Super AMOLED Dot Drop Display, which comes with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and has an HD+ resolution (1560×720). It is further proetected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display also integrates the traditional 7th-Gen in-screen fingerprint sensor for authentication.
The Mi A3 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 665 SoC, which is an octa-core processor built on 11nm process that comes with Kryo 260 CPU cores and Adreno 610 GPU. This makes Mi A3 the second phone in India featuring the latest chipset, as Realme 5 launched recently has been the first one to feature the SD 665 SoC. In terms of storage, the Mi A3 will be available in 4GB RAM variant followed by either 64GB or 128GB internal storage options, which can further be expanded via microSD for upto 256GB.
In the camera department, the Mi A3 can be considered as a notable upgrade from its predecessor, as it features AI-powered Triple rear cameras setup comprising of a 48MP primary camera sensor. The Sony IMX 586 sensor comes with an aperture of f/1.79. It is further paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP depth-sensing camera as well. These rear cameras also feature AI portrait mode and steady handheld night photography support as well.
Upfront, the Mi A3 features a significant 32MP AI-powered Selfie shooter beheld in the dot drop notch, which comes with an aperture of f/2.0. It supports Panorama selfie, AI Portrait, AI Beauty modes and besides, the selfie shooter can also be used for authentication as it as AI Face Unlock feature as well. The video recording capabilities of the rear cameras include – 4K video capture at 30fps, EIS, Slow-mo recording and they also feature AI scene detection for upto 27 different scenes as well.
The Mi A3 packs in a 4030mAh battery, that powers the phone and supports 18W Fast Charging including Quick Charge 3.0; however, the box includes only a 10W charge adapter. The connectivity options of the Mi A3 include 4G Dual SIM, Dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C for charging and data transfer, IR Blaster and a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Needless to say, the Mi A3 is Android One powered phone coupled with Google Assistant features, and it ships with Google’s latest Android Pie out-of-the-box and is included in the Google’s timely Android updates program as well.
The Mi A3 has been launched in the country with price starting at Rs 12,999 for 4GB+64GB storage variant, and the larger 6GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 15,999. The Mi A3 would be available as Amazon Exclusive, and it can also be purchased on Mi India website as well. The device will be featuring in three color variants including — Not Just Blue, More Than White and Kind of Grey variants.
