At the MWC 2019, Huawei unveiled its first ever foldable smartphone called Mate X. Also, the company announced the Mate 20 X 5G as an upgrade to the last year’s Mate 20 X. While the Mate X is expected to launch in the coming months, the Mate 20 X 5G is now launched in Switzerland. Last month, OPPO launched the Reno 5G smartphone in Switzerland exclusively via Swisscom. Now, the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G smartphones are launched by another Swiss telecommunication company called Sunrise.
Talking about the pricing, the Mate 20 X 5G is now on sale for CHF 997 (approx USD 980 / INR 68,000) and the users can avail the 5G services by paying an extra CHF 10 to their current plan. Talking about the hardware, the Mate 20 X 5G now sports the Balong 5000 5G modem to offer 5G services. Also, there are a couple of differences between the 4G and 5G variants of Mate 20 X smartphone. While the 4G variant packs 5,000mAh battery, the new 5G variant only sports 4,200mAh battery. However, the fast charging limit on this device is increased from 22.5W to 40W.
FYI, the Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone actually comes with even faster 55W Huawei SuperChrarge support. Talking about the other specifications of the Mate 20 X 5G, it sports large 7.2-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2244 x 1080 pixels) resolution and HDR playback support. Under the hood, it comes powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 980 octa-core processor coupled with Mali-G76 MP10 GPU and dual NPU. The 5G variant packs 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It also comes with NM card support for further expanding the storage on this device.
Coming to the cameras, the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G sports triple camera setup featuring 40MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, an 8MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The waterdrop notch on the front features a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. It still comes with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The device is also IP53 certified for water and dust resistance. It also sports stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support and includes Dual Smart PA for Hi-Fi audio output.
The Mate 20 X 5G runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0 out of the box. It also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack for connecting standard earphones or headphones. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS (L1 and L5), NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port. As of now, there is no information about the availability of the device in other European markets. In the coming weeks, the company will also launch its first ever 5G smartphone in China.
