Huawei Maimang 5 with Snapdragon 625 SoC & 16MP 4K Camera Launched



Earlier this year, Huawei launched the flagship Huawei P9 and P9 Plus smartphones with Leica branded dual rear cameras. In China, the company also launched the Huawei G9 Lite smartphone & Mediapad M2 7.0 tablet. Now the company came up with a new smartphone called Huawei Maimang 5 which is the successor for Maimang 4, this is the same device that was launched in the foreign markets as Huawei G8. The Maimang 5 comes with a metal body and rounded corners.

It sports a 2.5D 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 401 ppi. Under the hood, the Maimang 5 is powered by 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor built on 14nm architecture. It comes in two variants with 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage. Both the variants include MicroSD card slot for expanding the storage additionally upto 128GB. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based EMUI 4.1 on top.

Talking about the camera department, there is a 16MP rear camera with OIS and PDAF that can record 4K videos at 30fps. On the front is an 8MP with the wide-angle lens and includes several beauty filters. It is backed by a 3,340mAh battery that is rated to give 22 hours of talk time and lasts upto 800 hours in standby.While the 3GB RAM variant will be available in Champagne Gold and Moonlight Silver colors, the 4GB RAM variant comes in Champagne Gold and Rose Gold colors.

Apart from unlocking the device, the fingerprint sensor on the rear can be used for authorizing Huawei Pay and accessing the notification panel. It supports dual SIM dual standby with the help of hybrid SIM slot where the users get options to choose between the MicroSD card and the second SIM. The device supports VoLTE but only for China Mobile. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, USB OTG, and USB 2.0 Type-C port.

Coming to the pricing of the Maimang 5, the 3GB RAM variant is priced at 2399 Yuan while the 4GB RAM variant costs 2599 Yuan. The device is now available for registrations, and the sale starts from July 21st. There is no information about the availability of the device in the outside markets. We expect the Huawei Maimang 5 to be launched as Huawei G9 in the foreign markets.
