Gionee has officially launched the Elife S7 smartphone in India. At an event held in Hyderabad, the company’s head Mr. William Lu, and the Gionee India head Arvind Vohra launched it here, with three color options available. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 24999 in India.
The slimmest camera module, keeping it within the chassis and not popping out, is quite a thing for a 13MP module and 5.5mm thickness of the phone. The U-shaped skeleton is said to keep the phone rigid, and Gionee did take a dig at Apple about the iPhone bending.
Gionee has just announced the Elife S7 smartphone, at the MWC 2015 event in Barcelona. This 5.5mm device is the next in the series after the Elife S5.5 and Elife S5.1 that were launched last year. With the given specs, this seems to be a direct competitor to the Oppo R5, having a similar size, though the Oppo’s slimmest smartphone has a 4.85mm thickness.
The Elife S7 comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, and there is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on both, front and back of the device. What powers this slim phone is the MediaTek MTK6752 64-bit octa-core processor clocking at 1.7GHz, along with 2GB RAM. The High Performance Mobile Computing (HPM) is said to keep the processor speed high, while consuming less power.
This is the first Gionee smartphone with Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, and probably the Amigo 3.0 OS (its Amigo OS from now), which was expected to be released at this event. The smartphone has a 13-megapixel rear and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. It has 16GB internal storage and no MicroSD storage expansion.
According to the company, there is polar cooling where the internal body uses three heat radiation materials, eight cooling areas and thirteen different layers of heat radiating materials. Heating was the major issue with the previous 5.5mm Elife S5.5, thus Gionee has put an emphasis on this.
The company’s Image+ image processing system is said to be taking much better photos with the night mode engine of it taking about 6 pictures in a second to merge them into one by adjusting the noise and brightness. According to the company, it takes 500 milliseconds to take a capture, and 300 milliseconds to focus onto the object. For the front 8MP camera, the Face beauty 3.0 technology helps estimate age and gender, and also recommend the best effects for selfies.
“We believe ELIFE S7 will bring the future of slim smartphones to the next level. To make ever-slimmer phones, compromising on performance and function is pointless. Manufacturers should offer more features benefiting user experience other than just slimness,” said William Lu, President of Gionee.
The Gionee Elife S7 is a Dual SIM phone with 4G LTE connectivity (TDD LTE B38/39/40 FDD LTE B3/7/8/20), and interestingly, Gionee has managed to pack a 2750 mAh battery into this slim body. There is an extreme mode included, which when enabled at 10% remaining power, gives about 33 hours 45 minutes standby time by freezing functions except calling and text messages to ensure basic communications.
The device will be available in Black, White, and Blue. The pricing is set at 399 euros (roughly INR 28000), and this is going to launch in India on April 3rd.
(Earlier: This information is about the leaks and rumors shared earlier)
The Gionee Elife S7 is already leaked out and we’ve got a couple exclusive pictures already from the event place. Here’s how the Gionee Elife S7 looks like.
Not getting to the race of the slimmest devices out there, but Gionee is still keeping itself busy, preparing yet another slim smartphone, which is tipped to be around 7mm in thickness. The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year is going to have a plethora of announcements, and Chinese smartphone manufacturers are keeping themselves in the race as well.
Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini is the slimmest smartphone currently, with a thickness of 4.7mm, while the next in the list are Vivo X5 Max and Oppo R5, followed by Gionee’s two – Elife S5.1 and Elife S5.5. Now, the next device expected isn’t going to be real slim, but 6mm is still something one might admire while holding the phone in the hand. If you are attending MWC, head to Hall 8, where the new device will be showcased.
“The race to make the slimmest smartphone was getting out of hand. Going so slim is actually not benefiting user experience without the performance to back it up,” said by Oliver Sha, head of global marketing of Gionee.
It is now confirmed that the device is named Elife S7, and going by how Gionee has earlier named its smartphones, which now according to a TENAA certification, is a 5.5mm device, unlike the 7mm thickness we guessed based on how Gionee had named the earlier slim smartphones.
Much better fact to know, is that the phone will be coming with a 2700 mAh battery, and the Mediatek MT6752 processor with Octa-core 1.7 GHz CPU along with 2GB RAM.
Going by the way Gionee has launched its two earlier slim phones, we are in for another Mediatek-powered device having either an HD or a Full HD display, and some mid-range specs. But as the thickness gets a bit higher (from 5.1 to 7mm), we expect a bump in the battery capacity as well. There were reasons why we called the Gionee Elife S5.1 as one of the sexiest phones of 2014, and we hope Gionee manages to keep the design as super cool as they can.
We’d be reporting from MWC 2015, so stay tuned for some information on this. For the U.S. readers, you’ll just have to wait but will be able to get this unit through Blu, later on.
