Fitbit’s CEO confirms the company’s plans to launch its own wearable App Store

Fitbit, the company which is very popular for its fitness wearable devices in the market earlier announced its successful acquisition of yet another popular smartwatch maker Pebble. This rather came in as a surprise to everyone and everyone one was indeed waiting to see what Fitbit was planning to come up with after the acquisition. Now after all this while, it looks like we know what exactly the company is planning to do. According to the new reports which we have, the company is planning to launch its own App Store for wearable devices and it wants to do it as soon as possible.

Earlier at CES 2017 Show floor, the company’s CEO James Park said that the company wants to launch its own wearable App Store as soon as possible. It has been reported that the new app store would be built using some of the assets from the company which Fitbit acquired a couple months back, i.e. Pebble. This indeed makes a lot of sense because till date Pebble has around 14,000 third-party apps in its wearable app store. Park has also noted that coming up with an App store would be very helpful as the company is trying to extend its relationships. While it is not confirmed directly from the company, we believe that the company will also come up with some kind of smartwatch.

Huawei Watch Review – Slickest Looking Android Wear Smartwatch so far?

As of now, they don’t have any smartwatch under their product portfolio and we believe that the Pebble acquisition has to do something with an idea of smartwatch other than just creating an app store. It is also noted that Fitbit bought Coin last year, again with an intention of building payment capabilities into its wearable devices. Hence we do believe that something is cooking internally and we consumers will soon get to know more about it in the near future. Apart from that talking about the company’s latest wearable offerings, they recently launched the new fitness trackers i.e. the Fitbit Charge 2 and the Fitbit Flex 2, both of which are readily available in India as well. CEO didn’t confirm anything about the launch date of the app store, but we believe that it will come up very soon as he mentioned ‘as soon as possible’. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for details on the same.
