How To Downgrade Apple iPhone or iPad to iOS 8.4.1 from iOS 9

Apple has announced the iOS 9 at the WWDC 2015 held in June this year, and at the Hey Siri event held earlier this month, the company confirmed the date as September 16 for the public release of iOS 9. The latest iOS came with new features like low power mode along with better multitasking and security. Though the iOS 9 comes with all new features and improved performance, few of the users have reported about the glitches on their devices after updating to the latest version of iOS. In case you are one of those who aren’t happy about iOS 9 on their device, this article might help you in downgrading to iOS 8.4.1 from the iOS 9.

Normally Apple signs off the previous versions of iOS in a couple of months after launching the latest version. So downgrading to the previous version will be possible in this period. Before starting the process, you need to backup your data on iTunes.

Firstly you need to download the “iOS 8.4.1 IPSW” file that is compatible with your device on a computer along with iTunes installed. Once you had the required software’s, here is the step by step process for bringing your device to the iOS 8.4.1 version.

Step-1

If your are using an iPhone, go to the Settings and tap iCloud and then open ‘Find My iPhone’ option and turn it OFF.

Step-2

The iPad users can start directly from here and for iPhone users you need to complete the above step. Switch off your iPhone or iPad by long pressing the power button.

Step-3

Open iTunes on your computer and connect your device via USB or lightning cable.

Step-4

Press and hold both the Power button and Home button for 10 seconds. Now release only the Power button and continue to hold the Home button.

If everything goes well, a pop-up message shows up on the iTunes saying “A device  in recovery mode has been detected,” or else repeat the steps 2 and 3 until your device gets detected in recovery mode.

Step-5

Click on your device on the iTunes. Then open summary and click on the ‘Restore + Shift’ button on Windows OS and ‘Restore + Option’ if your are using Mac OS.

Step-6

Browse the earlier downloaded iOS 8.4.1 IPSW file and Select it. Within a few minutes, your device will be on iOS 8.4.1 instead of the iOS 9.

Once the total downgrading process is completed, your device will display a new setup screen just like you are using it for the first time. Follow the on-screen instructions to start using the device with iOS 8.4.1.
