Update: The Asus Zenfone Max with a huge 5,000mAh battery was first announced at the ZenFestival that was held in August last year. Almost five months after the announcement, the device is now officially available in India at Rs. 9,999 and comes in White and Black colors. It will be exclusively sold through Flipkart and Amazon and is already available for pre-orders while the shipping of the device starts from January 20th.

Recently we have many manufacturers launching smartphones with massive battery capacities. While Gionee launched the Marathon M5 and M5 Plus with 6,020mAh and 5,020mAh batteries, there are few other smartphones like Vibe P1m and Acer Liquid Z630s that come with a battery capacity of 4,000mAh. Zenfone Max is the first attempt from Asus to launch a smartphone with bigger batteries.

Earlier: Asus has announced a total of four smartphones today, the three smartphones – Zenfone 2 Deluxe, Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone Selfie – were expected from the company at the Zen Festival event in New Delhi while the fourth was a surprise for its consumers.

Asus Chairman Johnny Shih announced Zenfone Max, a new smartphone packing massive 5000mAh battery. It is the first offering from the Taiwanese company that packs a large battery. Moreover, the company also touts that their device can charge other Android smartphones too, which is pretty interesting.

Currently in the Indian smartphone scene, there are many devices that pack more than the usual amount of battery capacity like Gionee Marathon series of smartphones. With the specifications like 5.5-inch 720p display resolution, alongside Gorilla Glass 4 protections on top, it is a good device.

The device is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor, which clocks at 1.2 GHz, also enabling it to support 4G LTE connectivity. It sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which is further expandable via the microSD card slot.

Talking about the cameras, the device packs 13MP primary camera with dual tone assisted flash, as well as laser-assisted autofocus. You get a 5MP resolution selfie cam with the support of 85-degree wide-angle viewing support.

Running on the Zen UI 2.0 based on the Android Lollipop 5.0, the device offers a dual-SIM connectivity with other options like 3G, GPS, and Bluetooth 4.0. The pricing of the device was not revealed by the company, though, expect it to come around in October.
