Apple is Reportedly Working on Airpods 2 With Noise Cancelling & Hands-free Siri Support

Back in 2016, Apple introduced the truly wireless earbuds called Airpods. Though they look similar to wired Earpods, the Airpods comes with several advanced features. Unlike the Homepod, the weird looking Apple-branded earbuds can be used with any device supporting at least Bluetooth 4.0. Now, the recent report suggests the company is working the Airpods successor and will be officially unveiled in 2019.

With the Airpods 2, Apple might offer hands-free Siri integration. The users with current-gen Airpods have to double tap to activate Siri. Apart from the improvements, the upcoming AirPods 2 will also offer noise cancellation. Unlike the noise-canceling headset, the new Airpods will use the physical analog methods for implementing noise cancellation technology. It will come powered by the custom W2 chipset for faster Bluetooth pairing and other optimizations.

The company introduced the W2 wireless chip with the Apple Watch Series 3. While Apple will soon release a new wireless charging case for the first-gen Airpods for using with the AirPower, the Airpods 2 case might support wireless charging by default. The new Airpods 2 might be unveiled alongside the cheaper HomePod. We also expect the upcoming Homepod to include Bluetooth support for using with other devices.

With the complex reparability process, the current Airpods got 0 score from iFixit. While the Airpods are also easy to lose, the company is selling the replacement unit for $69. Apple also included the new “Find My AirPods” feature starting with iOS 10.3. Talking about the Airpods 2, we expect to get more leaks in the coming months.
