Google announced the next version of Android i.e the Android O. This, as we all know is going to be the next version of Android. As of now, we don’t have a name for this version of Android. There is a lot of speculation surrounding this and it most reports claims that it could be Android “Oreo”. Well, only time will tell as to what name is Google going to come up with. However, one thing which we can confirm about the Android O is that the version number of Android O is indeed 8.0.
This confirmation puts an end to a lot of speculation surrounding this. It was kind of expected that this will indeed be the 8.0 version but it is good to see a confirmation. The same has now been confirmed through the Developer Preview 3. As you can see from the image embedded above, the Android version which it shows with the Developer Preview 3 is Android 8.0.0. This has changed now with this new developer preview as the previous one was simply labeled as “O”.
This indeed makes a lot of sense since we are talking about a new version of Android altogether. The Android O brings in a lot of new changes to the OS and hence a change in the version number was quite obvious. As of now, the current stable version of Android is Android 7.1.2 and it is already running on Google Pixel smartphones. Also, the developer preview of the same is now available on eligible Google Pixel and Nexus smartphones.
We have already covered a detailed story on how to install the developer preview of Android O on the eligible Android smartphones. You can head over to that if in case you want to flash this. Do make a note that this not the stable version of Android O by any means and we suggest you not to install this on your primary smartphones. Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this. Which feature of the Android O are you most excited about.
