A couple of months back, Google had officially launched two new Nexus smartphones. The company hasn’t launched a new tablet and instead want to continue 2014 launched Nexus 9 tablet as their flagship tablet for 2015. After launching Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 in 2013 and 2014 respectively, this year the company named the new smartphones as Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. Now, Google is going to launch the third variant of Nexus 7 in 2016 and Huawei, which is OEM partner for Nexus 6P is looking forward to partner with Google for manufacturing 2016 Nexus 7 tablet.
Based on a Weibo post, the 2016 Nexus 7 project had already begun, and while Google hasn’t confirmed the OEM for the latest tablet, Huawei is showing interest in manufacturing the tablet. Asus had manufactured the 2012 and 2013 variants of most popular Nexus 7 tablet. The Samsung-made Nexus 10 and the Asus-made Nexus 7 tablets are discontinued in 2014 and the company launched Nexus 9 tablet made by HTC. While the Nexus 9 is placed in the premium segment, the Nexus 7 came with a budget pricing.
2013 Nexus 7 came with Wi-Fi only and 4G LTE variants and recently it had also received the Marshmallow update, but the 2012 Nexus 7 is limited to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. As seen with the recent Nexus smartphone, we can expect the 2016 Nexus 7 to sport a 7-inch screen size and top of the line specifications. In July this year there are few rumors suggesting the upcoming Nexus tablet to be built by LG, but there isn’t confirmation either from LG or Google.
At its 2015 Nexus launch event, Google had also unveiled a new tablet called ‘Pixel C‘ that will be designed and produced by the company itself. It is expected to be launched in selected markets before the end of this year. The tablet will be available in two variants with 32GB and 64GB of storage options priced at $499 and $599 respectively. While the Pixel C tablet will be debuting the market in the next few weeks, the 2016 Nexus 7 tablet can be expected to launch in 2016 annual Nexus launch event along with the new Nexus smartphones.
