Yesterday we had exclusively reported about the official launch of Gionee Marathon M5 Plus that is scheduled on December 21st. At that time we haven’t had any information regarding the device apart from the launch date. Now we had complete details regarding along with images but not the pricing. The Gionee Marathon M5 plus is the first smartphone from the company to feature a physical Home button and surprisingly it also features the fingerprint sensor.
Till date Gionee Elife E8 is the only device from the company to sport a fingerprint sensor, but that is placed on the rear of the device. The fingerprint sensor on M5 Plus can unlock the device in just 0.5 seconds and also supports mobile payments. It can also be used to lock specific apps and encrypt data. Apart from the added home button there are no changes on the design. It comes with all sand blasted metal body instead of the plastic as seen on the Marathon M5.
While we expected the device to sport 1080p display, the company still settles for a 720p display with a 2.5D 5.5-inch screen size. Under the hood is the MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. These are same specification that are seen on the Marathon M5. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based Amigo 3.1UI overlaid.
It has an 8MP rear camera while the M5 came with a 13MP rear camera, on the front it has a 5MP front-facing camera. The device is backed by a slightly smaller 5,020mAh battery compared to the masive 6,020mAh battery on the M5. The device will be officially launched on December 21st where we will get the official specifications, until then take this with a pinch of salt. With the added fingerprint sensor we can expect slight increase in the pricing. Stay tuned for more updates.
