Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5

Samsung is finally adopting metal body for its smartphones, and after the two smartphones with metal chassis on the side (Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4), the company has just announced two smartphones with full metal designs, and moreover, these are unibody designs unlike the biggest list of smartphones in the Galaxy range that always had the plastic back that was removable.

The main focus is on the younger customers, because Samsung has added a 5-megapixel front facing camera and is focusing more on social networking in the devices. Both the devices are kept quite slim in profile as well, as the Galaxy A3 is 6.9mm thick and the Galaxy A5 is 6.7mm thick. The features for front camera, i.e. Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Rear Cam Selfie, and Beauty Face that were limited and introduced in Galaxy Note 4, are now going to be a part of the software in the Galaxy A3 and A5.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 comes with a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display and it has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (Snapdragon chipset but unspecified about the model), 2GB of RAM, and there’s a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera as well. The device has 16GB internal storage, and a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion, and the battery embedded is of 2300 mAh capacity.

The Galaxy A3 on the other hand, comes with a 4.5-inch qHD display with 960×540 pixels resolution, and the chipset isn’t mentioned for now. The other specs as well are lower to that of the A5, because there is 1GB RAM, 1900 mAh battery and the rear camera has a 8-megapixel lens.

What is common in both the smartphones apart from the metallic body and 5MP selfie camera, is the Android 4.4 KitKat running with TouchWiz UI over it, and the LTE variants of both A3 and A5 will have NFC chips in them. The Ultra Power Saving Mode is going to be a part of the software as well, and for the first time, Samsung is offering four themes to choose from, unlike the standard TouchWiz UI and its theme that has been a part of every Galaxy smartphone before these.

Samsung is throwing some good color options to choose from, including Pearl White, Midnight Black, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue and Champagne Gold. These A series Galaxy smartphones are going to be made available from November 2014. What could be a little disappointing, is the fact that the phones will be available only in select markets.

“The Galaxy A5 and A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics. “These devices make our advanced Galaxy experience even more accessible to young and trend conscious consumers.”

Galaxy Alpha still piques my interest but i like samsungs direction

  • Joshua Akinsola

their new innovations are impresive like phone curvature and new mattes and metal replacing over plastic

  • Love the metal and sleek design! Liking new phones from Sammy! Hope they fix their Touchwiz UI too!

    • Jugal Mudoi

I’m quite sure with L update these phones will be getting a optimised and better Touchwiz UI.

      • Hopefully. The leaked Lollipop version for the Galaxy S5 seems the same.

    • Now that is a WHOLE other story. Android l is coming and im still not sure on samsungs plans for it and touchwiz. Id like to see a balance of pure stock and tochwiz not one overpowering the other in the update.

  • Nebu Cherian

The design looks good but won’t create any big movements in market for sure

    • Jugal Mudoi

because they already done it 😉

    • how about with the alpha that is a pretty nice phone, do you think will it cause a stir in market?

  • Shanky Yadav Jungly

samsung is going more and more innovative

  • Shanky Yadav Jungly

this is new revolutionary beginning of samsung devices

  • Shanky Yadav Jungly

and i am sure after this more other brands will also copy the same

  • Nikhil Narkhede

Every samsung phone from now on should follow this design strategy .

  • Eddie L. Rosado

Inb4 overuse of the word “premium” from various tech outlets and commenters.

  • Suraj Racharla

This is a consumer taget phone where only the visual apearance looks good. The inside of the phone isnt too strong. I am guessing this is one of Samsungs medium range phones and wll cost around 400-500 dollars. Competion to the Sony Z3 compact i guess

  • Now Samsung moving on to rugged metallic devices, its great to know that

  • Subham Bapna

Yeah Enough of Plastic Samsung, It’s time for getting with Metallic touch with Sammy.

    • Its a good time for samsung users knowing that samsung will finally mov to a metal profile, IT TOOK AWHILE!!

  • Jugal Mudoi

Better late than never.. this is a great move by Samsung though the whole unibody metal design is not their creation, hope to see such design on their every flagship and mid range phones.

    • hope so to it would nice to see a ditching of the old plastic at long last and insertion of these new brilliant designs, they already look very uniform and compact

  • Joshua Akinsola

    prefer over apple and xiaomi

  • Joshua Akinsola

Stil cant wait to see 5.0

  • I really like these phones and I believe the focus on social media is a good idea , that will prove fruitful for samsung. Depending on price, I may pick one up one day.

  • Shanky Yadav Jungly

metal devices are more durable than plastic

    • and plastic is bad for the environment as it doesn’t wear down, but its not like were gonna be throwing our phones all over the ocean

  • Shanky Yadav Jungly

dont wanna any more plastic body

    • that is what everyone feels and we are finally getting heard with new metal body releases, samsung is in for a good sales boost with its great design!!!

  • Shashank Chourey

  • Suraj Racharla

it looks like a premiuim S3

  • Suraj Racharla

    lol the second generation S3

  • he more I look at these phones, the more I like them. Though I am a fan of the usual samsung smart phone designs, I began to feel as if they were becoming a little tired. The A series is different.

    • yeah they were getting old and after numerous complaint on dated design strategies android listened and made began switching to metal profiles

  • anybody notice that the bottom corner is sort of sticking out and making it look like a flip cover?
