Update: Today, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has advised Jio to withdraw the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE.

Jio accepts this decision. Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator’s advice, and will be withdrawing the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days.

However, all customers who have subscribed to JIO SUMMER SURPRISE offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer.

Earlier: Today is a big day for Reliance because it is the day 100 Million plus users would stop using the free 4G service in the country and upgrade to the paid services. Surpassing all the market expectations the service has already crossed 72 Million users and along with this they have announced some amazing offers that are mentioned below.

This is the largest migration from free to paid services in history in such a short period of time. Considering the unprecedented demand for enrolling to JIO PRIME and doing the first recharge, Jio has extended the deadline for purchasing Jio’s Rs 303 (and other) plans till 15 th April. This extension will provide the necessary breathing room for users to avoid service disruption during the transition from free to paid services. Customers who could not enroll for JIO PRIME by 31 st March for whatever reason can still do so by paying Rs 99 along with their first purchase of Jio’s Rs 303 and other plans till 15 th  April. Jio also announced the Jio Summer Surprise for its JIO PRIME members. Every JIO PRIME member, when they make their first paid recharge prior to 15 th  April using Jio’s Rs 303 plan (or any higher value plan), will get services for the initial 3 months on a complimentary basis.

The paid tariff plan will be applied only in July, after the expiry of the complimentary service.
The Jio Summer Surprise is the first of many surprises for JIO PRIME members.

Earlier – With just a handful of days remaining for the users to enroll for Jio Prime membership, we have been seeing a lot of speculation surrounding Jio’s Prime membership response. However, in order to get some clarification on this, we got in touch with our internal sources and we now have a confirmation stating that Jio has crossed over 50 million Prime membership mark as of today.

Jio said that the response for Prime Membership has been tremendous and they are expecting another 10-15 million prime users by the end of this month. Taking the current numbers into consideration, about 40-percent of Jio users have opted in for Prime and this definitely puts an end to all the false numbers that are circulating around the media. According to them, the cashback offers, etc. have helped them a lot with increasing these numbers. And as far as the prime membership enrollment extension is concerned, we don’t have any official word on that but it is expected that it will be extended by a month. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more info on this.

Earlier – Reliance’s Jio will be ending its year-long free services on March 31st, 2017. However, the users can continue the same benefits of the free Jio offer with unlimited 4G internet (FUP @ 1GB/day), voice calls, and SMS till March 31st, 2018 by paying Rs. 303 per month. To get this unlimited plan for Rs. 303, the current Jio SIM users need to become the Jio Prime Member by paying a one-time fee of Rs. 99. While Reliance initially announced March 31st, 2017 as the last date to get the Jio Prime Membership, now leaks suggest the company to extend the deadline until the end of next month.

This is due to the poor response from the current Jio users who are enjoying the free services. Since not many of the users have paid Rs. 99 to get the Jio Prime Membership, a few days back, it came with few new offers that further subsidies the one-time fee. While there are no official numbers for the userbase of Jio Prime Membership base, the reports suggest only 22-27 million users turned up to get the Jio Prime Membership. The report also mentions that Jio has reached only 50% of their target. As there is only one week left until the official deadline, it’s highly impossible for Jio to reach its target.

With Rs. 303 unlimited plan, the company is offering more 4G data than any other service provider. However, Jio users still experience higher call drops and poor customer service. Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone also came with affordable unlimited plans but are not as cheap as Jio. These incumbent operators also offer better service than Jio 4G and even supports 2G and 3G bands. Even after extending the deadlines, the company might not reach its 50% target which will be around 60 million as most of the interested users might have already subscribed for the Jio Prime Membership.

Jio is also offering Rs. 50 cashback on every recharge made through Jio Money app, which in return makes the Jio Prime Membership free as the users get Rs. 100 cashback after purchasing the Prime Membership and the base plan. While the Rs. 303 plan comes with FUP of 1GB/day; there is another unlimited plan with FUP of 2GB/day that costs Rs. 499 per month. The Jio Prime members who purchase the monthly base plans before March 31st, 2017 also get a complimentary booster pack of 5GB and 10GB 4G data for free on Rs 303 and Rs. 499 unlimited plans respectively.
